People who have other options don't put their children in DC public schools. Unfortunately, the majority of students in DCPS (nearly 75%) live below the poverty line. Also note that charter schools' graduation rates are not factored into the public school statistics.
 
So much to say, so much work to be done.
 
And obviously, it's a huge issue, but I don't understand why a city's dropout rates are being compared to states' dropout rates in the first place.

I have seen Waiting for Superman & It was very good but, all of the parents in the film were very much involved in their child's education such as meeting with teachers & etc. I agree that there are a lot of bad teachers but, that is not the only problem. Parents need to be involved a lot more than they are.
