A doll designed for little girls as young as two to 'breastfeed' is going on sale for Christmas and has been labelled 'weird' and 'creepy' by mums.

Children will wear a bib which features 'flower nipples' and the 'baby' will make suckling sounds when the girl puts it to her chest.

Known as the Breast Milk Baby, the £60 toys will demand to be winded after feeding - and if the child does not do it they will start crying.

Angry parents have hit out at the doll created by Spanish makers Berjuan Toys with one reason being the sexualisation of children.

The Mirror reported that one mum labelled it 'toe-curlingly gross' on Mumsnet, while another branded the toy 'disgusting'.

'I think a BF doll is just weird and gross,' said one mother.  'It is the same as these bras you get for young girls who just don’t need them.

'Just let kids be kids – there’s plenty of time for them to learn about BF/birds and bees etc.'

Variations: Lilyang and Tony
Variations: Jessica and Jeremiah

Variations: The toys are available in different varieties, including ones designed for children from the Far East (Lilyang and Tony) as well as African-American kids (Jessica and Jeremiah)

As well as debating about whether the toy was appropriate for children many even wondered whether it was worth buying at all.

One said it was 'pointless and silly' while many others balked at the cost of the toy.

Regardless of this the toy is expected to be a hit - it went on sale in the US yesterday and comes in six different variations with different backgrounds - two are African-American and two are from the Far East.

Savannah, Cameron, Lilyang, Tony, Jessica and Jeremiah each have different personalities according to the descriptions on the The Breast Milk Baby website.

Fox News presenter Bill O'Reilly told viewers: 'I just want the kids to be kids. This kind of stuff – we don’t need this.'

But a spokesman for Berjuan Toys, Dennis Lewis, defended the products. He said: 'We’ve had a lot of support from lots of breast-feeding organisations, lots of mothers, lots of educators.

'There also has been a lot of blowback from people who maybe haven’t really thought why the doll is there and what its purpose is.

'Usually they are people that either have problems with breast-feeding in general, or they see it as something sexual.'

The website for the dolls says: 'The Breast Milk Baby lets young girls express their love and affection in the most natural way possible, just like mommy!

'The Breast Milk Baby represents a revolution in design by teaching children the nurturing skills they’ll need to raise their own healthy babies.

'Just put on the fashionable top included with each Breast Milk Baby, bring the baby’s mouth up to the pretty flower, and enjoy the closeness, the loving bond between mother and child.'

What's really the difference between this and a baby with a bottle for a kid who has younger siblings and have seen them be nursed?

I am not buying this but I wouldn't call it disturbing at all.

I wouldn't buy it for my child if I had one. Too many landmines.

It'd open the door for that "where do babies come from" convo, and I'd freak the fvck out if I caught her "nursing"one of her friends. It'd be innocent, true enough, but no...just no.

If my child asks for this doll I would buy it for him or her.

I'm not going to teach them it is okay to bottle feed but not okay to breast feed. I'm not quite sure how breastfeeding could lead to a discussion about sex. (I guess if the only thing you think breast are for is pleasing men) That's like thinking that teach your child how to hover their genitals over a toilet to pee will lead to questions about sex.

And if my child is at a place where he or she is curious about where babies come from I will be a mature adult and tell them in an age appropriate manner. I don't see what the big deal it.

Why do people feel the need to shield their kids from nature? Embrace their inquisitiveness and use it as a teaching opportunity.

Someone posted this a while back. People were totally appalled at the very normal concept of kids modeling behavior of adults. Would I buy it, yes. Breast feeding is natural and beautiful and kids are curious about that. The toy is age appropriate and and not the least bit graphic.

Then again, I'm a kook-- I'd let my son play with dolls. So I may be more than slightly skewed.

I breastfed a few of my dolls in my youth and would stuff towels in my dresses/shirts to mimic pregnancy. I am still baby free. This might be good for older siblings with a newborn.

This is definitely weird

I know a lot of kids play like this with their regular babies, which i think is fine. But what's the point of making a doll specifically for this purpose?

Posted By: callmeDEva
Date Posted: Nov 10 2012 at 1:59pm
I was discussing this on a mother board yesterday..

There's already a stigma with nursing in America oddly, so of course people are going to find it "gross" (as they stuff their newborns with a processed milk substitute)

Anywho - I think the doll is great. Teaches young girls that their breasts aren't just sexual items, but actually were designed with another great purpose.

Then barbie dolls shouldn't have breasts...

I'm sure little girls suddenly want to know about sex and where babies come from when they change out their barbies clothing..

yes. im not teaching my daughter how to clean house and take care of babies while shes only 5. just like im not buying her dolls that are all about fashion, hair and make up. im pretty old fashion. we play hand games, hopscotch, simon says, ride bikes and skate. heck the other night we played hide n seek in the dark.  I think the dolls are great. I believe in breastfeeding, breastfed all of mine and I support age appropriate truthfulness. My sons played with dolls because they wanted to be "good dads" like their daddy.

Kids see animals feeding their babies all the time. The mother feeds them. My youngest loves animals and when he was about three he asked. Mom, do all mommies feed their babies. and I said yes. Then he said, I saw some mommies feeding their babies with a bottle...are they just lazy?

I don't think that breastfeeding interferes with childhood. JMO

THIS.

I've always had a problem with these toy companies pushing "baby" dolls, toy kitchens etc. on kids...particularly girls. To me, it sends subliminal messages of "See, this is what you were born to do!" Let the kids BE kids.

I don't agree with baby dolls for little girls. Why would I want my little daughter thinking about being a mother already? I also don't believe in buying violent toys like guns for little boys. Some of this shyt hits too close to home. It's easy to have a baby or to shoot someone. Aim higher.

And yes, the breastfeeding aspect makes it a lot worse.

I am down for socializing kids to breast feed. The powder milk campaign was way to effective.

I have my 3 yr old niece cleaning, helping with dishes and folding. She had a play kitchen and vacuum. I bought all of that ish. And she thinks it's fun.

She isn't going to grow up to think that is a girls job...she is going to KNOW that is a life skill. And when my nephew gets older, he is going to learn the same.
