They vote

They say JW's aren't supposed to get into politics or enlist in the army. I remember in grade school this boy couldn't say the pledge of allegiance because he was a JW; his parents were strict and I remember all his sisters always wearing skirts and dresses never pants.
My friends and I wanted to be one so bad because we hated saying the pledge of allegiance. We quickly got over that when we found out they don't celebrate Christmas and birthdays.

I have several family members that do go to temple or whatever they have..and they do vote. I know Muslims that have gone to whores and drank alcohol. Lots of people do something different than their religion commands/ask.

Gone to whores? In what sense? Do you mean they were muslims that went to sex workers or sexually active women?

I don't down others for their beliefs though. I'm Open minded and feel like people believe who and what they want.

Nationalism

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to salute the flag of any nation, recite the pledge of allegiance, stand for or sing the national anthem, run for public office, vote, or serve in the armed forces.

I get it

How is voting putting your faith in man? I vote and I would never dare put my faith in anybody but my God. How do you justify not voting but abiding my laws, rules, and regulations written by man? Especially when voting impacts those laws, rules, and regulations?

Damn really. That's messed up. I just went to one last Wednesday for my husbands friend and the friends brother. No one told me anything or all he other people in there. There were two separate funerals though. A catholic one and the Jehovah's one right after.

We were told days b4 that it would be just for the church family. I asked if I could at least come to a viewing and pay my respects and was told it wouldn't be necessary but they appreciated the thought and it was a private ceremony. Maybe it had something to do with her fam not knowing me because I knew her from classes but even someone who knew her mom wasn't allowed to go. I was pretty upset for a long time and yeah it still hurts this many years later.

That sucks. My mom always told me about her friends brother passing. He was catholic and his wife was Jehovah's Witness and she refused to attend the funeral because it was a catholic one.

Yes, for the most part they don't vote or get involved with world affairs (unless its regarding the beloved state of IsraelErmm)

I remeber how my family members went apesh!t becasue my grandmother (who is a JW) was in the hospital over a heart conditon and some of her Jehovah Wickedness friends sneaked by and told her doctors that my grandma is not accepting a blood transfusion.

Unfortunately we weren't allowed to move furniture and rearrange facial features, so we had to permenantly ban them from visiting my grandmaStern Smile

I feel things might turn ugly in this thread..so I will just say I live in Holland and prostitution is legal here. In fact, sometimes you see wanted ads in the paper. There is a brothel right down the street from the local jail. I would see the women walking to work at the brothel as I rode past on my bike to work.
It is no big deal to most people. It is a job like every other one. They have a union and paid leave just like everybody else. The have worker rights and their own trade paper.

Thanks Prazol. I appreciate the feedback. And I don't know about "people" but I personally said it because I mean it. It would be a nice change to move and experience a different location, and if that terror wins, even more reason for me to act. I have the means to do it..why not?

Oh heck no, those people are racist over there. They think they are Dutch but they have nothing in common with the people other here. They laugh at them and they old fashion out of date views. No, I got a job in Germany then moved here. I've had dual citizenship for 8 years now so I can move anywhere within the EU.

Germany isn't bad at all. You do have to speak German to live there, they will try to speak English with you but it is so broken. Very friendly people but if you are trying to watch your diet, watch out! They had for a while a problem with Neo-Nazis attacking German-Turks but that was 12 year ago. They have too much work over there so they are trying to get people from other countries to come and work there now.

My cousin who was stationed in Germany loved it there...Everyone I know is moving either on the west coast or abroad. Because some people are woefully ignorant on how complicated it is to expatriate to another country.  You will need a job, speak the language and learn the customs and what not.  Majority of those people ain't going anywhere so they are just talking out the side of their mouths.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are not allowed to salute the flag of any nation, recite the pledge of allegiance, stand for or sing the national anthem, run for public office, vote, or serve in the armed forces.

I get it
They are political neutral

Who's making these rules? Sounds kind of like a cult to me. No offense.

Don't know Im not a JW.
I mean their are certain things about citizenship and being apart of the state that sounds cult like to me .
But ppl pay no mind to it since we've been doing it so long.

Okay I can understand the first three rules which are impled from the ten commandments, but the others? No.

But them making up stuff doesn't make them any different from most religions, honestly.

Not much difference between cult and religion tbh. A cult just isn't widely accepted

When I say cult I mean they are not getting their directives specifically from a sacred text but that it's been made up recently by one or a few people. They aren't the only modern religion that can be considered a cult. Seventh Day Adventists follow the writings of Ellen G White as if they are doctrine so they could be considered a cult as well.

We aren't a cult, and our teachings arent made up. We don't follow a person, we follow and live by gods laws which are laid out in the bible. So we believe in the bible, god, and Jesus.

the same for most of christianity. all of the bible is interpretation which is why i give most religions a side eye. /shrugs/

i will say everything jw's do is rooted in some scripture which is why i don't understand when ppl say they don't use the bible. have you ever been a to a jw meeting? it's all the bible, all the time. your bible is in high rotation.

That would be an interesting thread. Is religion a cult ? But its BHM and it would get ugly by page 2. :(

Once u stop caring about what others do life becomes easier.

She didn't say that God said don't vote.
It's their interpretation of what was written.

Interpretation of what? I'd like to know. Not all religions are on the up and up. Is that something you can agree with? And like I said it's not just them but a lot of religions. You're the only one who's trying anything.

like any religion everything is open to interpretation. very few things that religions do is specifically said verbatim. too many circumstances in life. it's application

and a lot of times it's looking at what Jesus did--was Jesus out voting or putting his faith in the leaders of his time? no. he was out preaching the word of God--which is what witnesses think is their main mission.

and the general adage to not entangle yourself in this world--bc it will end.

Harmonni, I wouldn't even try to explain JW to everyone here. If they wanna know more, google or read a book.

This thread is just a trap.

i don't know if we can go by that though. Jesus was on earth for a specific purpose. He didn't have to do the things we have to do. We can't bring people back from the dead which is why we study medicine, we can't feed a crowd with one fish which is why we farm, etc. JMO.
