Hey ladies. I got my new bottle of Megatek today. The bottle looks a little different, because they're celebrating 20 years, and the bottle has flowers and things on it.. but it's still the same Megatek Equine Rebuilder. I was looking at the ingredients, and I see that the hydrolyzed keratin protein is no longer the second ingredient. Also, they took out the marine protein and amino acids. The hydrolyzed keratin protein is now wayy further down on the list. I'm pretty upset about this, because this is what made the product work so well. Now I feel like I wasted my money, because I could've gotten another protein product for my hair.

Has anyone used the new Megatek, and if so, how are your results? I'm wondering if I could return this product.. Should I contact Eqyss directly about this?

Oh yea-- and question?:
Does the "new" formula still have mucopolysaccharides listed as an ingredient?

Those are what helped with growth

I never used Megatek, and I have been wanting too. I better go tomorrow to the TSC store and see if they have any old bottles left.

I'm sooo mad! I feel like I just lost $30. I knew I should've just made my own protein mix instead of ordering a bottle of MT. I'll try it though just to see if I get any results from it. Like talia said, I guess they're trying to force us to buy ovation.

Here's the new ingredient list:
Deionized water, Steralkonium Chloride, Glycerol Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol (derived from Palm Oil), Castor Oil Ethoxylate (40), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Keratin Protein, Cetrimonium Chloride, Tetrasodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Fragrance.

As you see, hydrolyzed keratin protein went from being the second ingredient to the 8th. And no more mucopolysaccharides, or marine proteins for that matter.. tsk tsk tsk.

Aww say it ain't so I wanted to try it this summer.

If I were to add more protein to this new bottle of MT, or if I were to make my own protein mix entirely, would you ladies suggest using hydrolyzed keratin protein or keratin amino acids? I know they're both good for hair, but which is better? To be honest, I'm quite confused as to what the difference between the two is. Amino acids make up protein, so aren't they really the same thing? Anyone know?

I'm going to check back in two weeks to see if they have the new ones or if the ingrediants changed. i will let you guys no. If they still keep getting the orginal MegaTek formulas, I can get some for you guys.

They're trying to get skimpy on the ingredients, the same way companies are shrinking food but charging the same price D:<

Just bought 2 bottles a month ago.  Still using the leftovers from the last bottle (original formula).  I bet they are trying to get us to buy OCT. The local radio stations are filled with OCT commercials. Pinch I'll probably add a filler or return.  SUCKS!!

How do you know if ppl are selling the old or new bottles? A lot of ppl arent changing the pictures of the Megatek on their websites because its still the same product, just different ingredients. Do you think I should contact the store I bought the MT from and ask if they have an old bottle that I can exchange it for?

I got in contact with the store that sold the MT. When Eqyss was contacted about this, they said that it's the same formula but their old labels were wrong. Here is a copy & paste from the email I got back:

After receiving your e-mail I got on the phone to Eqyss to find out the scoop on the labels and ingredients. The formula for Mega Tek has not changed. They did have to revamp the labels according to the EPA international standards. The way it was explained to me, is that the original label on the old bottles, the ingredients were not listed properly. The new labels are listed properly and with the names of ingredients used worldwide.

So apparently MT listed the ingredients wrong on the old bottles...Ermm. I'm not sure if I believe this... What do you ladies think?

To the person that wanted to know which one is better: hydrolyzed keratin protein or amino acids. Amino acids are better and usually cost more........As far as megatek, this sounds shady to me and I believe it. They were cheating the customer by listing ingredients that were not in the product and someone ratted them out so they had to change it. And what a big change it is! This should show us as black women not to keep making all these companies that do not support black people rich. your hair will grow without this, stop making everyone rich besides our own community.

Happy growing to all!

Thanks so much, its been quite awhile since I have been on here, I use to live in the LF section, now  I am ready to grow my hair and get it healthy.  I printed your list of ingredients and took to the saddle store where they had it, and thank goodness it was the original formula.  The lady said this is all they ever have/had.  I am in Atlanta if anyone is looking for it, it is off Roswell Rd, which changes to Route 120.  It was $35 with tax.  Wish me luck..... I mixed it with some EVOO and Glycerine, and I am taking biotin and odorless garlic capsules so far until I get my regimen in order.

I plan to draft a letter and ask specifically of Eqyss the details.  If enough of us ask perhaps they will post info on their website.

There are new laws on Consumer/Product Safety and this may have more validity than I initially wanted to believe.  If this is true, I wonder if the OCT bottles have been changed to reflect the proper order.  Previously the comparison was very very close less 1 ingredient  (if I remember correctly).

The new formula basically has the same ingredients as the OCT. I just may go ahead and buy some Mega-tek anyway whether it's the old formula or not. It couldn't hurt, especially if it's just the same formula anyway after correcting the list of ingredients on the label. HHG!

I'm just now seeing this thread after (of course) purchasing my megatek on Amazon. I have the Newer bottle with the flowers on it. Man if I knew someone that could actually test the chemicals in  the 2 bottles I certainly would have them do it. I'm only finishing up week 3 of using the MT so I will be doing my review of the product after a month. Also Thank you to the lady who lives in atlanta that dang near drew me a map (I needed it) I found in in yahoo using the street LOL

Don't fret I called a store here and they said they have it, and yes I asked the lady to read off the second ingredient and it was Hydrolyzed Keratin Protein. So just call around to a farm/horse/feed/ tackle store like I did and you'll be able to find it. I feel like the darn Hair FBI around here lol LOL I really wish I knew a chemist that analyze the product CSI style for me lol. This was my first bottle so I don't have anything to compare it too just reading the ingredients.

If you want the old formula back... I say you guys write complaint letters to them or protest. Believe me companies love their customers and money. You just have to tell them what is wrong and they will listen.

Oh, by the way, is the new formulation better?

I got mine from Amazon, and it's the new one (even though they had a picture of the old bottle). SO I wouldn't trust that I'd just go to a local store, which I have found one here that has it so when I'm ready I'm going to go there and buy it. I actually had the lady chekc the ingredients I asked her was the second listed ingredient "Hydrolyzed kreatin protein" she said yes but I'll probably still check the bottle when I go to the store Wink

According to what I've read here a few people have contacted the company and were told that it's the same ingredient but they were but listed incorrectly at first and have corrected it. I really don't trust them so thats why I want to try the 'old' one that I can purchase here. I have the 'new' formula and I'm going on my 4th week starting today, after a month I'm going to do a length check so see if it has sped up my growth. As far as thickness I haven't felt any change. Also the way I'm using it, is I'm applying it to the scalp (which I don't know how it would effect the rest of my hair if it's not even touching it). My friend says she does her DC with it for about 15-20 minutes with a heat cap, I may try that the second month.
