Try pre-pooing using a hot towel and your choice of conditioner or oil.  I like Africa's Best Hair Mayo mixed w/ evoo.

Pokahontas, is that Africa's Best Mayo good?  I always see it at Wal-Mart for a lot less $$ than the ORS.

Also, do you notice a big difference using the hot towel vs. just a plastic cap w/or w/o heat?  TIA.  Smile

No honey does not make your hair sticky, it's amazing!  I have used it in pre treatments and just followed with a co wash, and I have never had any problems with it.  Thumbs Up

It's pretty good but I won't really rave about it.  I like it better than ORS though.  It's neat because you can also use it as a leave-in.  Now their liquid hair mayo is the bomb!  Using just a hot towel really helps the moisture to penetrate better.  Kinda like a steam treatment I guess.  I'm gonna try one soon using shea butter.

I usally use Amla Oil cover with a plastic bag lol, and leave on overnight, sometimes I use honey and olive oil as pre-poo. I haven't tried doing it with a conditioner yet, I think I may try it as an excuse to buy more conditioner!

I just started doing pre-poos this month and what a difference it makes! I just use suave, vo5, dove, pantene or herbal essences conditioners. I rinse my hair & scalp really good with water for a few minutes then apply the conditioner (actually I just do a co-wash before shampooing), I don't leave it in that long though, just a few minutes, rinse out and as a result of doing this I only have to do one lathering of shampoo because the pre-pooing makes your hair moist enough not to need too much shampoo. Then I deep condition.

Yeah, the plastic cap really does help hold the heat in.  I'm so sorry I forgot to add that.  Besides the towel cooling how did it work out for you?  I just run my towel under really hot water but I'm thinking of trying the microwave.

Pre-poos have helped to reduce my shedding and breakage. Also, when I do heavy duty protein treatments, I find pre-pooing helps by not making my hair so dry and brittle.

I pre-poo with a mixture of Evoo, honey, any type of cholesterol.  Sometimes I will also use the Dabur Amla oil, or I will use Frenche Super Grow to oil my scalp and edges.  I then put on a plastic cap and use my heat cap for about one hour.  I am seeing the benefits of pre-pooing.

Any products I'm trying to get rid of (for eg. right now it's Doo gro growth lotion- very oily) with EVOO and Honey and a conditioner.

Put the contents in an empty bottle and shake well.

Section my hair in four and coat well. Then I plait the four sections and cover with a plastic cap.

Leave on overnight and follow with my weekly shampoo and deep conditioning method the next day.

It feels great, I'm getting ready to rinse it out followed by 1 lather of Hair Therapy tea tree oil shampoo then 1 lather of Paul Mitchell awaphui poo, not yet sure what I'm gonna deep condition with yetTongue.

I use any Suave Natural conditioner - right now Im using Lilac....and I add olive oil to it.  Sometimes I heat it up in the microwave before I add it to my dry hair and then I cover it with a shower cap...this holds in the steam. This stays on for about 30 minutes before my shower.

The main benefit of this for me is it reduces tangles which = less breakage. By the time I get to the conditioning process of my routine, my wide tooth comb glides through my wet hair!Big smile

The Paul Mitchell Awapuhi poo is great! It's moisturizing and smells really nice. I've used the new herbal essence conditioner, the hydrating one in the bright blue bottle. It smells great, like coconut but I didn't like it as a co-wash conditioner, it wasn't thick enough to me but I am going to use it to pre-poo I think it will be great for that.

I tried this today for first time.  I mixed some Lustrsilk cholorestral-Mango butter mixed with some condtioners I am trying to get rid.  I slather on my hair and used the Foil conditioner shower cap for about a hour.  I rinse in shower then wash hair with Garnier dandruff shampoo for my scalp and used some Motions CPR shampoo, next I deep condition with MOtions CPR condtioner while I shower.  My breakage and shedding was much less.

I next applied Motions leave in conditioner and section hair and applied the Motions CPR anti breakage lotion and blowdryErmm.  My hair does not seem to care for airdrying.  After I used a two inch curling iron  on low heat 3 to give my hair the wrap look and wrap hair and tied hair up.

I am dealing with a relaxer that really did not take.  My new growth is wavy  and I just relaxed at the end of May.  I won't even talk about edges.

Also ladies who wrap their hair, do you find a lot of hair on you when combing your wrap down, if so what did your do...stop wrapping?Cry

Please respond as I need help BADLY.Cry

This is my first day on this site, and I always knew that we as consumers had much knowledge, and this site proves just that...Pre-poo, who'd a thunk it ...and also what I found helpful was the regimen that Motions recommends after relaxing...add conditioner before you use the neutralizing shampoo, this will then seal the conditioner into the strands whlle locking in moisture...neutralizing at that state which I have found to be very helpful over the years even when I am not using motions products. I plan on trying pre-poo for my daughters and my hair, seems like you have to have the time to do it and it makes since.

I need clarification though on what is being  mixed...seems like something with an oil base as well as a moisurizer is that correct? I see many suave products being mentioned here which is a good thing because I have found them to be very economical as well as cream of nature products. Please send any recommendations...also what is evoo, I have never heard of that nor seen it

Thanks

Since it is warmer, I don't add oils.  Here's my routine:

  • Slather on some Lustrasilk Shea Butter Cholesterol with Mango Butter.
  • Cover with a plastic cap.
  • Leave in for an hour or even overnight.
  • Shampoo with CON, Elucence, or Elasta QP.

Do you do it everytime you decide to wash your hair?
What is MTG, I keeping seeing people refer to that?

pre poo is when u put condish. on your hair and let it sit before u shampoo your hair. i do it everytime i wash my hair. MTG makes your hair grow. you can do a search on it on this site and u'll find a lot of topics on it.

@odyssey, i think it depends on your hair. using a clarifying poo with out pre pooing would be kinda harsh on my hair

You are welcome.  But I only use this once I see a breakage happening.  I did my research and found out the carrot oil stops breakage.  So I figured "Why not mix this into my fav condish?"  Wink

I've also tried the VO5 Strawberries & Cream conditioner is good.  Try getting the VO5 blueberries & Cream and mixing a little EVOO & honey.  I bet you will love the results. Smile

I wear protective styles through the fall and winter months (mainly ponytails - that require hold).  How can I pre-poo prior to washing out my products??

Posted By: morenae
Date Posted: 22 Oct 2006 at 2:10pm
These days, I've been trying this "pre-poo" regimen without shampooo in an attempt to strengthen, add moisture and reduce breakage. My hair is dry, dry, dry. It's an old recipe I used to do when I was little and I've since returned to doing it lately since I've been rough on my hair for the past few years.

INGREDIENTS, BLENDED:
-2 eggs
-1 tablespoon of olive oil
-1-2 tablespoons of Queen Helene Cholesterol

THEN
-Apply mixture to small sections of hair - SATURATING LIKE CRAZY
-Put on plastic cap
-Leave on for at least one hour
-Rinse out in shower with water and LOTS of moisturizing conditioner (whatever is cheap, but not too heavy. Must be MOISTURIZING conditioner without protein. This is a good time to get rid of those conditioners that "did nothing" for my hair. This is also time to scrub the scalp to get it clean.)

AFTER RINSING - if I have the time
-Add ANOTHER mixture of pure aloe vera gel- straight from the gel. I take the gel of a whole leaf and puree it in the blender.
-Saturate hair from scalp to ends with the mixture, then rinse with water.
- Braid in 4 sections and air dry.
The extra aloe vera step gives moisture to my scalp (which is dry) without the use of grease or oil.

This procedure takes ALL DAY. LOL.

I pre-poo on dry hair. I mainly started doing it as a way to use up conditioners that really did not work out that great for me and to use up some oils that did not impress me.  I like it because I do not have to hop in and out the shower after getting wet.

The conditioners that I am using either alone or mixed together are -Silicon Mix, Praital Silkworm conditioner (I don't plan on buying these again),
Nacidit Olive oil and Avocado conditioners ( these 2 dominican conditioners stopped working for me, no longer detangle my hair after shampoo.....and I used to love them)
Lustrasilk Shea butter with mango (not sure if I'll repurchase)
and Joico K-Pak Intense Hydrator (will never buy again, left my hair full of tangles when used alone)

Which conditioners I use depend on if my hair  needs more moisture or more protein.

I notice maximum results when I apply this to dry hair.  I don't shampoo my hair when I do my pre-poos.  I only shampoo my hair once a month and that's when I do my "Garlic Hot Oil."

LOL.

I tried this over the weekend.  This will keep this as part of my regimen.  I also added 2 tablespoons of molasses. I left this on for one hour (no heat).  My hair came out butter soft.  The slip was AMAZING!! Heart  My fiance couldn't stop touching it. ;)  Thank you for sharing this with us.

I just completed my first pre-poo tonight and ...oh la la (My hair is IN LOVE)Clap I mixed one egg, 1 tsbp. of castor oil, 1 tsbp. of EVOO and Motions Moisturizing Conditioner into a bowl.

I then divided my dry hair into four sections and then took one of those brushes (like they use when applying a relaxer) and brushed it into each section applying the pre-poo directly to the scalp.

After my whole scalp was done, I covered it with a plastic shower cap for an hour and rinsed it out with cool water.

Do you guys shampoo your hair afterwards? I just took off braids from my hair and want to deep condition. So first I do a prepoo using a conditioner + some oils, and then I shampoo and deep condition afterwards??

I do an overnight pre poo with HE Hello Hydration conditioner( i'm gonna try that Long Term Relationship conditioner as soon as i run out!)...sometimes i put olive oil in with it...but it does fine with just the conditioner.

I simply rinse it out and use my clarifying shampoo in the morning and then do a deep conditioning.

My hair is already soft and I comb with a wide tooth comb, but combing is always to a minimum, so I doubt that pre pooing will actually help me.

I will use it if I begin to have excess sheeding or breakage though.

I've pre-poo'd twice and I'm happy w/ the results.  For one thing, the lack of breakage was significant.  My hair was much more receptive to the shampoo, and twice as easy to manage.

My pre-poo routine:
Evoo (heated in microwave)
Aussie Moist conditioner

Mix both in hair, put on plastic cap and leave for 30-45 minutes.

heat some olive oil in a cup, apply to my hair and put on a plastic cup. leave it in for 1 hour and then i wash my hair as usual. i tried it once with conditioners like fantasia aloe vera deep conditioner or other deep conditioners, but it made my hair hard. i dont know why. so i swapped to olive and my hair is soooooo much harder
