Each month, FOX16's Donna Terrell encourages women to do their http://www.fox16.com/content/news/health/bse.aspx" rel="no follow - breast self check , we typically don't think to tell teenagers. So she was shocked when she found out a 13-year old from Little Rock was diagnosed with breast cancer. "And if I was shocked, imagine how her http://www.fox16.com/content/news/health/story/13-year-old-fighting-breast-cancer/8dmoZnmmw0CXs5hGlvf2OA.cspx?rss=1470" rel="no follow - family felt," says Donna.  This is the story of a 13 year old girl who was wise enough to know the lump in her breast wasn't supposed to be there.

Thirteen-year-old Taylor Thompson of Little Rock loves keeping up with her friends on Facebook. And she enjoys doing some of the same things as most girls her age.

"I text a lot, talk on the phone, dance, like hanging with friends," says Taylor.

But when this 13-year found a lump in her breast, she told her

"And right off the bat, they went ahead and removed the lump out of her breast. So we were suppose to wait for two weeks for the biopsy to come back. And that's when it came back, and she tested positive for it," says St
ephanie Anderson, Taylor's mom.

She was positive for what's called phyllodes tumor, a type of tumor that is rare only making up one-percent of all breast cancers. It typically grows fast and usually is found in pre-menopausal women. In rare cases though, adolescent girls are diagnosed with it.

After the diagnosis, Taylor had to go back for surgery last July to remove more the tissue around the tumor.  Her mom says that's when Taylor got nervous.

"She was wanting to know the outcome, was she going to be okay. Was asking a bunch of question like if she went to sleep if she was going to wake up," says Stephanie.

Now, nearly three months since the surgery Taylor is healthy again, however, there's a 98-percent chance that the tumor will keep coming back.

"If it comes back, if it gets big enough, it can go to my lungs and they said they won't know if it goes to my lungs unless I have an x-ray," says Taylor.

But Taylor and her mom says they will stay vigilant and do regular self breast checks, something Taylor was doing all along.

"That speaks volumes because there are adult women who do not touch their breasts, do not think to check, and your daughter did," says Donna Terrell. "Yes she did," says Stephanie.  "That very well could have saved her life, you know that?" asks Donna. "Yes. That's what her doctor said," says Stephanie.

"Are you concerned now, are you always checking your breast?" asks Donna.  "Yes because I'm thinking it might come back but I want to make sure," says Taylor.

In addition to self breast exams, Taylor goes back to see her doctor every six months to make sure there's no recurrance of breast cancer.

thank God they checked it out early, but a 98% chance it will keep coming back and even spread to her lungs? Shocked

Yeah, I just watched that on the news. That's pretty scary especially since the girl is so young. And that high recurring number is crazy.

If this was my child, Double Mastectomy would be on mind right now.

Tough decision, but no breasts with a much more reduced chance for it coming back, beats breasts + increased chances of it coming back.
