i've read peppermint oil and water is good for stimulating growth .... i just start started putting oils on this spot that isn't THAT bad, but i notice it. i stopped pulling my hair back in tight puffs and i try to be careful on that spot when fingercombing in the shower

First step .... take a deep breath - you don't need a reason why ♥

I think just babying them...if you sleep with a satin scarf, I would stop. Start sleeping on a satin pillow case. Sometimes the scarves can pull on your sides and break them if you hair is weak there. Also, don't pull your hair so tight (if you do). Limiting combing in that area.

And like Roxie said, you can try growth aids.

i'm using beemine serum right now. if you google it, you can find the website. i started using it after seeing a woman who's edges mirrored mine in how thin they were and she had pictures of progress and within 7 mo, they were completely in. i'm talking she had no hair there at all. she had alopecia and had suffered from it for a while. i saved her progress pics, but i don't want to post them because i don't have her permission to, but pm me if you want to see it.

oh and i've been using it for two months and i can definitely see my hair filling in already. the ingredients are all natural. it's just coconut oil, olive oil, sulfur powder (not msm because that doesn't dissolve in oil, only water, and this is an oil-based product), and some essential oils (i'm guessing something like a combination of rosemary, thyme, cedarwood, and lavendar) so you could actually make it yourself if you did your research on each EO to determine how much to use (googlehay alopecia study for a template/instructions). HTH.

ETA. the product isn't expensive at all for what it does though. the serum is 13 dollars and i got mine for 10 the first time because the maker of the site frequently has discount codes. i go through like a bottle in like a little over a month so it's not bad at all.

I read somewhere else on this forum about castor oil, so when I can remember I have been applying it at night.
I read in a beauty book about Vitamin E oil being good to help your eyelashes and eyebrows grow. It might be worth trying on your edges too...HTH

Castor oil? Wow! I had picked up some Cocounut Oil & Peppermint Oil from the Whole Foods store near me, not too long ago, but haven't got to trying it yet. I just wanted to get some more opinions. Thanks a million, once again! Big%20smile

Castor oil's been good to me.
Also, I stopped sleeping on my sides.    I agree with the satin scarf and pillowcase.  Good luck!

Does it matter what kind of castor oil you use? I have been using the clear one and I have not seen any results. Could I be doing something wrong?

I use Claudies edge balm...it works really well. I noticed hair growing back in after the second week. I had breakage from my scarf.

Joking. I rub/massage whatever you want to call it on my edges from ear to ear and it has thickened up and some extras are growing in.

My nape and edges were severely ripped out from a sew in
I used Megatek for a month and got good growth but decided that I didn't need a growth aid if I just gave the area's extra TLC.

Months to a year later ive been super happy with the results. There were hairstlyes that I was never able to do because of them broken areas, and now I have loads of baby hairs lol and extended nape hair sometimes i feel like a damn chia pet
I moisturized the area 2x a day with scurl and sealed with olive or coco oil (morning and night)

I kept my nape area braided at all times, I wore styles that would cover the cornrow.

I stayed away from hairstyles that would put strain on my edges.

I highly recommend massaging with castor oil to thicken the area up.

And yes invest in a satin pillowcase.and if you have to use a scarf . start at the back then fold sides over to the front (do not tie knot directly on top of hair, you will be pulling hair out!!) wrap around and tie to the back, remember not so tight.
also stay away from bonnets that have rubber edges, invest in the ones with the flat satin edges, or you can lightly tie a satin head band around the perimeter of your head and wear a bonnet on top.

Heres a link to my fotki which show you my progress from megatek, and you can also check out the recent albums to see the areas now....

As a matter of fact here are some pics that arent in my fotki,
In the Aug 08 pic my nape use to have no curl definition what so ever just plain ole fuzziness. It would never set in twist out or braid outs either. As soon as it started to grow in my curls started to show definition. I had the same issue with my edges

in Aug 08 here it used to be so hard to catch the hair into a cornrow

Edges after a month of megatek

Nape in Sept 08

i had a bald spot and thinned out hair due to mistreatment of =hair etc. I  cut my permed ends off and would massage castor oil on my scalp daily as well as taking bioton pills. I also just wrapped my hair and never really manipulated it for the summer. I dont know if it had anything to do with the castor oil or just giving it  a break
