Just let me say that I have wanted to strangle BHM tonight. AngryCry  I hit submit only to find that it had logged me out as I worked and I had to start all over again, with these **** links. *sigh* Angry

At any rate, take a close look and let me know what I've left out or if any of my links don't work.

Once I get feedback, I'll put in the request to make it a sticky.  Thanks!

The shopping places thread  for all of the kitchen chemists is embedded in the Mixologists Unite thread, but I can pull it out if need be. ETA: Done

As for the challenges, give me the links of the ones you want included and I'll add them in.

ETA: I didn't include the Grow out challenge, cause it's already a sticky. No one should miss seeing that one.

Did some rearranging, put the advice section first, versus towards the end...only because that's where the bulk of the "care" instructions are and I can't be certain that everyone will read through it all to find what they need...though I hope so.

OMJ.. Before you ask to make this a sticky make sure that you have everything needed in your first post because after they make it a sticky. You cannot edit the 1st post or it will no longer be a sticky. I learned this after I did one in the make-up 101 thread.

Really? I've been editing ever since Russ "stuck" it and it just came down today. After I made the last change I noticed it was down. Ouch

I guess it was just a fluke that it let me edit all that time. I believe I'm pretty much done now. I just let Russ know that it came "unstuck." He's going to knock me out for bugging him...agagin. Embarrassed

Hi, My 14 year old daughter decided she wants to go natural after 5 yrs of relaxing.
This summer, August I believe, will mark 1 year since we've relaxed her hair.
Anyway what I was hoping someone could tell me is....how long does it take for hair to go back to its natural state? And her hair, when she was 3-7 yrs was almost waist length, is it possible it can grow like that again? She currently gets her hair blown and then flat ironed and hot curled every two weeks.
And her ends have been clipped every 8-12 weeks since she's been on this journey. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! I'm so happy to hear of your daughter's decision. Good for her!

I'm a bit confused about your question (in bold) or maybe I'm misunderstanding.  Her relaxed hair won't "return" or revert to it's natural state, she'll have to grow the relaxer out.  The new growth that she gets will be the natural hair. As her hair continues to grow you'll see a marked difference between the relaxed hair and the new growth (this is called the line of demarcation).  It's up to her (and you) how long she will transition (allow her hair to grow out in this phase) before she cuts the relaxed ends/hair off or if you'll just continue your current routine of trimming  an inch or so every 8-12 weeks until all of the relaxed hair is gone.

And as Roxie said, as long as she cares for her hair properly she can obtain her previous length.  I hope that you find this sticky helpful in determining what types of products or types of products to use and with developing a regimen for her. Be sure to read through and look around, you'll find SOO much information. This forum has been a God send for me (and my DD) and I'm sure it will be for you all as well.

So come on in, kick off your shoes and get comfy while you read. Beverages will be served shortly. LOL

i read this forum a lot and i just tried something that worked on my hair amazingly.

my hair was dry today.

i mixed mane n' tail conditioner with some evoo just now  and.. WOW..

i didn't want to wash it out because it felt so good and so *right* on my hair....so i put a shower cap and my satin cap over and i'll baggy  while i sleep.

i hope it's not bad for my hair.. i just didn't want to wash it out.

do i have to wash it out tomorrow then moisturizing DC or can i just leave it in there? i've read about some women here using mane n tail as a leave in.

i've never ever had curl definition like this in my entire life.

is this how it feels when you find something right for your hair?

lol i'm so happy.

i really wish i had a fotki account like a lot of people have because i would have taken a picture of this.

i hope i'm not damaging too much by lleaving the MnT in..

i dunno, just mixed with the olive oil my hair REALLY seemed to like it.

just wanted to share something that seems to work for my hair right now.

I'm so happy for you!  As for this particular conditioner...I'm not very familiar with it, but I'm pretty sure it's got protein in it so be careful about using it as a leave in. It may have just been that your hair needed a protein treatment...which in turn helped the olive oil to better moisturize your hair and thereby enhancing your curl pattern.

I'd say rinse it out and see if your hair still looks as great as it did when you had it in and be sure to do a moisturizing DC afterwards...just to be sure. Too much protein could lead to breakage.

I'm not natural, but I am a 4b stretcher, so you know I know how difficult it can be dealing with these kinks. I'm thinking about starting a 4b support thread in the hair growth section. You ladies are invitedSmile. Feel free to add tips, stories or anything else. I know the natural ladies have a lot of wisdom and insight on hair care, not to mention a lot of patience.

Hey Girls
I just joined the forum but I have been visiting it religiously to get advice because I've been natural for 2 yrs. But now I have a question that doesn't seem to be addressed anywhere on the site.

I started wearing half wigs recently and need advice on what to with the inch or so of my hair that I leave out along the perimeter. My wigs are curly so I don't have to apply heat daily only every two weeks. Do you think this is gonna be damaging or noticeable being as though the rest of my hair is braided up?
Are there any special routines that I should now that I'm doing half wigs??
P.S. The wigs section isn't very helpful because most of those women have relaxed hair so blending is not an issue for them.

Hey, welcome Shani!
I can't help too much w/the half wig question.  When i wore a weave like that, I would wear a headband to camoflauge.  I had different colors and patterns to compliment my attire.  Maybe the pressing section will have more info...good luck!

Good afternoon ladies! I am currently transitioning right now, my last relaxer was in January. My hair is about shoulder length and I just wanted to know if anyone had any style suggestions. I work at the front desk at a hotel so my hair always has to be neat and professional, I've been wearing twist sets, but I'm getting tired of them. Do any of you ladies have any other styling suggestions?

I have learned a lot on this hair journey and Iím sure I will do well with natural hair, butÖ My 1st concern is I have a fat face. I donít think I will look right with short hair. I had had long hair forever. I have a nice length of natural hair now. My hair grows fast, so I know I can grow it back rather quickly, but I donít want to look at myself and feel ugly. My second concern is how others will react to me.

i'm sure you'll love it - you'll love finding a regimen, playing with products and hair styles, making your own products, and the best part - having a very loving relationship with water LoL .... plus, you won't be confined to the "Ethnic Section" of the store for your hair care - it's amazing what kind of world their is out there beyond relaxers - believe me.

And if you love yourself naturally then it's going to show from from your toes to the very ends of your curly hair =) Work with it and love it girl and have fun on your journey - i'm sure your friends are secretly envious .... give them a few years and they'll probably come around Smile
