Ok ladies, today was day one and the class moves very fast. Some of you may get bored as to most of what today covered is a lot of what we know already. But for those that haven't heard of all the tips I'll post anyway. I ask that you ladies forgive my spelling First we were given a suppliers list consisting of all the companies that people in the industry purchase wig making supplies. The list is very long so I wont cover all, but here are a few. For lace Kryolan in San Francisco, CA ( stage and film lace), Frends beauty of N. Hollywood, CA Ventilating needles Mhrw.com And the Hairess Corporation has a catalog for wig products. The class covered hair types, asian hair is very heavy, has large cuticles and can withstand more treatments in terms to coloring, perming and such. When we purchase yaky hair we all know that even though it is called human hair it actually comes from a yak (animal) no matter what you hear it comes from the yak, and can still be considered natural hair (human) because it is not synthetic (man made). If you have asian or indian hair you can give it texture ( make it look more AA) by giving it a crinkle look called creoling. Just take small sections of hair braid from root to end very tightly and place in a solution made from 1 gal of water, 1 T vinegar, or 1/2 the juice of one lemon let the solution come to a boil place the hair in and let boil for half hour, remove and place under a good dryer till completely dry. If you want to permanently curl the hair without doing damage use the same solution with the choice of curl you want. This is called Forcuree Frissee. It was recommended to limit the use of regular perming chemicles
as overprocessing will really kill the hair. If you have a wig that has been lightened to blonde, once the hair is wet you really have nothing but mush, and the hair will not last long at all. Be carefull with those blondes.
There have been many threads on coloring the hair here. If you want to preserve the quality of your hair RIT clothing dye is the right thing to use. You have to play around with the different colors, mix and match to get the correct formulation. Keep a record of what works for you. We did not really get into lightening the hair to much other than it being not reccomended. You can dye the lace in the same manner.
If you purchase bundle hair to find out if the hair has all the cuticles in the same direction you place water in a pan, place a rough scratchy surface at the bottem of the pan, place the hair in the pan a swish in back and forth motion all the hair should go in the same direction. If you get hair landing in two directions the hair that is at the bottom is cuticle correct, the top hairs should be taken out and turned around so that the cuticle matches the others. Hope this helps some of you. Day 2 covers ventilation. See you then.

So nice of you to share what you have learnt. Thank you for doing that, and it was not boring at all. I never knew that yaki hair came from a yak..wow...and the procedure for making asian hair look like AA hair appears simpler than I had envisioned.

wow. great info. I can't wait to find what else you learn. I just found out this weekend yaki comes from a yak! How the heck could I have not known that. I'm not going to use that again for sure. Just making sure the light yaki that the CV's sell, is that yak or is it real hair made to look like yaki?

Gurl, I have been on the internet looking for how they process the yak hair. I got so much information but NOT how you actually do it !!
Thank you so much. I have 2 units where I lost the creoling and could never find how it is done. You are the best !!!

I* don't know what stage of processing the hair is in when the class materials instruct you to boil it in the mixture for creoling. But I guarantee, I will not be boiling any of my units, braided or not. I did that the first time I tried Rit Dye Remover, and that beautiful bodywave from Jacksun just up had a total psychotic episode. That unit was a project for weeks and it was NEVER wearable again.

The subject of YAK hair in the BSS stores was a hot item in beauty magazines, how'd y'all miss this one? That's why the hair looks and acts so terribly. SO may I ask this one? You do know about the braided Shih Tzu (dog) that is blended with the Yak right? They throw them all in a vat boil 'em treat 'em. coat them dty them (the hairs) and sell to us!!!

Do they just mean that yaki hair sold back in the day used to come from yaks, but not anymore? Because if all the Yaki hair that is being sold currently is yak hair, then why is there Indian Yaki and Chinese Yaki? Do they mean yaks from India versus yaks from China or what?
OR is it just false advertising? Do they want us to THINK this hair is coming from an Indian/Chinese person, when really the mess was just shaved from a yak's ass? Things that make you go "Hmm..."

They mean dont trust BSS hair!! When you order your hair directly and you specify what you want.. and your vendor is trust worthy-- then you are good to go!!

I don't really read hair magazines, so I guess that's how I missed it. Anyway I used to L-O-V-E some Outre yaki back in the 90s. It blended well for me, but the drawback was biweekly visits to the salon for a fresh install. I really am not bothered to find this out. I knew $20 dollars a pack wasn't legit quality human hair some how. Of course if I went back to weaves I would by virgin hair, but not to say I would never wear yak again.
I wonder if they are going to go over sewing the cap base or are they going to use one of the lace front with mesh hook ups I see on mhrw.

I think what YOU get from a reputable vendor is Indian Remy hair textured to look like yaki hair. The yak is the example of the texture that is being mimicked !
But your cashmere sweater does come from a yak blended with goat and lambs hair.

ok if you boil the hair in curl rods, won't that melt the rubber in the rods or the wig cap?

I tried this with a small sample of weft hair (Indian remy) and it did not work! This process works with regular hot water for synthetic hair, but not for human hair. I was sooo hoping that I finally found the technique that I've been searching high and low for - but the search continues.

You have to use a material that can stand the heat. Boil for 30 minutes, the water is boiling before you place the hair in the water. This is done with hair on a track, or bundled and tied at the root end. Not already applied to a wig, or lace. After boiling it is very important to bake, in a hair dryer that allows the air to circulate but not escape the dryer. It must be dryed completely.

Hollywood, CA Ventilating needles Mhrw.com And the Hairess Corporation has a catalog for wig products. .....
Is that where one can but the lace for the base of a unit?
