If what he says is true, NO American politicians hands should be on ANYONE's Bible because American politics and the message of Jesus are totally incongruent.

I can't feel outrage right now.  Not with my own people.  I don't have anything left over after seeing people in social media hell hoping and praying that Obama gets assassinated today.  We don't have to agree with everything (or anything) he does.  You don't have to agree with him swearing on one Bible or another, but he's making changes.  Changes so unnerving to....some kinds of people.  I think that's really important.  To me, important enough for him to put his hand on any bible (though I'm pretty neutral on the practice anyway).  I won't feel anger toward those who disagree though.  Not today.

Nope. He said it several days ago at some conference. He even said in front of Newt Gingrich that Romney as president would be a disaster. He was not dissing the president. He was asked a question and gave his honest views.

Honestly, that is dissing the president.

I mean think of the timing, even though he didn't go out of the way to say this and rather was asked his opinion, the result is still the same. A mere days before the inauguration you freely state that you feel "some kind of way" about Obama using MLK's bible. How can that NOT be viewed as a form of shade?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and sure he can scapegoat by saying "well someone ASKED me what I thought, I didn't volunteer my opinion", but the result is still the same. And since it's not the King family saying this, but some 3rd party (Cornell West), it really has a sour grapes/attention grabbing ring to it.

If the King family was hesitant to let Obama use MLK's bible, and only agreed after much arm twisting, I'd understand West's statement better. But who knew MLK better than his family? And who would have more of an incentive to want to ensure that they only align things from MLK's legacy with people who are in line with his teachings?

West's statement is honestly overreaching - with an implication as if he knew MLK better than the King family and infers that if MLK were alive, he would have vetoed Obama's request. THAT'S the issue I take with West's statement. He's not the mouth piece for the King family. He needs to stick to other topics.

I would also add that we need to consider the source. West has openly said (in so many words) that Obama is on his sh*t list for not magically fixing all the ills of the black community or making the black community his primary focus during his first term.

I'm quite sure he used words like "Obama abandoned the black community after USING them to secure his 1st presidential election win".

So, it doesn't surprise me to hear West saying the above - even if someone else asked him rather than volunteering. And it's the reason I agree with many others in saying West should have several seats.
