Copied and pasted from an old thread

Tips

*For short or thick hair, cornrowing and flat twisting catches hair from root too tip, enabling puffy roots, and a more consistent pattern...

*Cornrowing, and flat twisting in short distances come out curlier, also giving a more consistent pattern to shorter hair...Braid or twist in two separate rows in back, instead of braiding straight from the hairline to the back of the head...

Pic Examples:
Two Strand Flat twist

Cornrow

I also highly recommend you learn how to cornrow or two strand flatwist, because alternating between individual and flat will definately aid in making your style last, and give you so much more styling freedom...

If you keep practicing you WILL get it right...I totally sucked at flat twisting but got better and better as time went by....

Here are a few tutorials...

To prevent that annoying arse middle part after take down, make your first cornrow or flat twist or first column for braids or twist in the middle of your head...

If you want more stretch, style dry hair, for a curlier come out damp to wet hair...

Products with more oils/butter and less water will give you less hold and a fluffier look

Products with more water/gel and less oils will give you a defined look

Pomades and grease's will give less defined types more definition and softeness...Some can mix in a little gel if they want even more definition...

When I do my braid outs, I like to stop 2-3 inches from the end, and twist...

It's a short cut to using curling rods. I've noticed as my hair gets longer my ends don't coil the way they used to with braids...The technique makes take down way quicker as you wont be picking through the ends to unravel the braids...

It also gives you the perfect oppurtunity to moisturize and seal your ends...I like to nourish my roots and mid shaft with coconut oil, and when I get to the twisting part I do this

Hair too flat? Too shrunken? Are parts are still apparent?...After you take your braids down, pull hair in a super high bun, do your make up get dressed or whatever, then take it down and fluff for hair full of body and volume...
You can also go to sleep with this bun if you are too tired to rebraid...

The high bun helps me go from this

to this

For volume at the crown...braid or cornrow FORWARD...the roots will the have memory of the position while the length of your hair will hang back...

Start the base of the braid about an inch or more behind the braids

When my hair was shorter (APL and up) I would stretch my hair out with banding, or braids, then take them down and set my dry stretched hair...
