since 1999???

I thought it was just this year? Which is just over a week per child

55 over 15 years is less than 4 absences per year, then spread over 7 kids that isn't very much at all

A troubled teenager or a sick child can throw off the avgs

hold on, are you cited for every absence or for absences over a certain number?

Depends on the school district. Some count every unexcused absenced, tardies, and then anytime the kids are caught ditching.

The fines for each time aren't big. The problem in this case is that she would show up to court unprepared, without the documents they requested (and another article said she showed up visibly dirty/unclean/unkempt) or she would skip it entirely. So then they add contempt of court probably.

To her jail probably looked like a good way to wipe the slate clean.

TC part of the way education dollars work is that the state is reimbursed by the federal government for each student. The fed formula for that reimbursement includes counting butts in seats...so not just how many are registered...but actually attending.

This is why I keep telling people it's so important to vote not only in presidential elections...but also in local school board, congress, and governor elections. Funding formulas are SERIOUS business and they affect students on a day to day basis.

Low reimbursement rates is one of the ways you end up with overcrowded classrooms. Because your dollars are limited then you have to cut back in lots of areas.
