I am outraged by this article.  While it's only about NYC, I have a sick  feeling that it will travel across the country.  I had to do this as a cut and paste, but if you go on the website and can figure out how to place it in this thread, I'd appreciate it.  It sounds exactly like the "for coloreds only" of the pre-Civil Rights Movement.

action alert!
New York City is already the least affordable city in the country. Now, it's allowing the gap between rich and poor New Yorkers to get even wider by allowing developers to build separate entries for low-income residents.

As the most expensive city in the United States, New York already seems to be divided into two different worlds: one for the rich, and one for everyone else. Now, local leaders want to make that gap even wider: they've approved a developer's plan to implement "poor doors" in their buildings aimed at low-income residents.

But Care2 member and New Yorker Jillian K. won't stand for that in her city. She created a petition to tell Mayor Bill de Blasio that this is not the way to fight inequality in New York.

Under the city's Inclusionary Housing Program, developers can construct larger properties if they include units that cost less to rent. Given Manhattan's exorbitant housing costs, this was supposed to be a way to allow a wider range of people to live in their hometown. Unfortunately, that was too much for some construction companies. They agreed to lower the rents on some apartments, but residences paying those cheaper prices would use a back-alley door separate from the glitzy front entrance.

When real estate corporation Extell proposed this last year for its condo at 40 Riverside Drive, locals were outraged. Despite public outcry, though, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development has opted to allow the company to build such a "poor door.

We have to stand against this extreme display of unfairness to New Yorkers. Sign Jillian's petition asking Mayor DeBlasio to rescind the approval for 40 Riverside Drive and to ban "poor doors" for buildings in New York City!

I wouldn't go that far as to say "for coloreds only" only because there are just as many, if not more, low income white people as African American.  But I get what you're saying.

What I meant by that is there are doors just for "poor" people, like there were doors just for African American people back before the Civil Rights Movement.  Neither are/were right.

I just saw that there is another thread about this.  So, please go to that thread (Poor? Walk Through the Back Door) and support the petition so that it doesn't spread to other areas/states.
