From what I remember on UNSUNG she didn't like that kind of music.  She thought those songs were kind of corny or popish or whatever and she wanted to do her own thing, so Clive Davis just kinda replaced her with Whitney.

I did 'hear' that she cursed Clive out in a meeting once.  The article said something like Phyllis didn't understand why Clive had signed her just to change her.

I remember I saw the performance Living All Alone when I was younger. I used to love that lady she was and will always be beautiful to me. She even whistled beautifully. lol.
 
The only person I knew that could imitate her whistle was my mom's friend son. lol.
