Anonymous Targets Israel by Taking Down Hundreds of Websites and Leaking Emails and Passwords

It looks like Anonymous followed up with its threat of digitally attacking Israel for taking military action in the Gaza strip. They've knocked down websites, deleted databases and have leaked e-mail addresses and passwords. It's a whopping takedown.

The targets taken down include the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs database and Bank of Jerusalem database, which have both been deleted. On top of that, Anon also took down over 600 sites with DDoS attacks and pasted over 2000 email addresses and passwords. Pretty rough.

Here's a statement from Anonymous explaining why they attacked Israel:

For far too long, Anonymous has stood by with the rest of the world and watched in despair the barbaric, brutal and despicable treatment of the Palestinian people in the so called "Occupied Territories" by the Israel Defense Force. Like so many around the globe, we have felt helpless in the face of such implacable evil. And today's insane attack and threatened invasion of Gaza was more of the same.

But when the government of Israel publicly threatened to sever all Internet and other telecommunications into and out of Gaza they crossed a line in the sand. To the IDF and government of Israel we issue you this warning only once. Do NOT shut down the Internet into the "Occupied Territories", and cease and desist from your terror upon the innocent people of Palestine or you will know the full and unbridled wrath of Anonymous. And like all the other evil governments that have faced our rage, you will NOT survive it unscathed.

To the people of Gaza and the "Occupied Territories", know that Anonymous stands with you in this fight. We will do everything in our power to hinder the evil forces of the IDF arrayed against you. We will use all our resources to make certain you stay connected to the Internet and remain able to transmit your experiences to the world. Terror groups in the Sinai Peninsula launched rockets into Israel Friday night, another worrying sign that the territory may be in the midst of a precipitous slide into anarchy and violence. The rockets caused some damage but no injuries.

The Morsi government has overseen a dramatic deterioration in the security situation in the Sinai Peninsula. Salafist terrorists have launched a series of spectacular attacks on Egyptian security officers and Israelis in recent months. Analysts have called particular attention to the role of educated middle class Egyptian terrorists in the attacks, which some had sought to link to local Beduin.

Israeli officials have repeatedly called upon Cairo to "reassert its sovereignty" in the increasingly lawless region, with the Egyptians proving either unable or unwilling to do so.

The rocket attack comes at a time when the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Egyptian government of President Mohamed Morsi has been providing "aggressive support" to Hamas in the Iranian-backed terror group's conflict with Israel. Egyptian Prime Minister Hesham Kandil visited the Gaza Strip earlier today, one of a series of moves which have distanced Egypt from the United States and its allies, who seek to isolate Hamas over the group's commitment to destroying the Jewish State and its tactics of raining down rockets on Israeli civilians.

Meanwhile Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh led Gaza crowds in chants of "Long Live Egypt" today in appreciation of the new closeness between Cairo and Hamas.

Israeli warplanes have struck Gaza militants for a fifth straight day as its military prepared for a possible ground invasion, though Egypt saw 'some indications' of a truce ahead.

Forty-seven Palestinians, about half of them civilians, including 12 children, have been killed in Israel's raids, Palestinian officials said. More than 500 rockets fired from Gaza have hit Israel, killing three people and injuring dozens.

Israel unleashed its massive air campaign on Wednesday, killing a leading militant of the Hamas Islamist group that controls Gaza and rejects Israel's existence, with the declared goal of deterring gunmen in the coastal enclave from launching rockets that have plagued its southern communities for years.

Palestinian militants, undaunted by the heavy damage the Israeli attacks have inflicted, have unleashed some 500 rockets against the Jewish state, including new, longer-range weapons turned for the first time this week against Jerusalem and the Tel Aviv heartland.

Following those attacks, the military deployed an Iron Dome rocket defence battery in central Israel today. The system, devised precisely to deflect the Gaza rocket threat, was deployed two months earlier than planned, the Defence Ministry said.

According to Israel its Iron Dome system has intercepted nearly 250 rockets since a round of fighting broke out on Wednesday, including an incoming projectile bound for Tel Aviv.
