I've been told that I do this by my friends. I remember I had on a regular shirt and jeans and sneakers and my homegirl said I looked cute and dressed up. I looked basic as hell. Another time I was going to the supermarket with a friend and I had my hair in big twists that look like celie braids. I went to take them down and she tried to throw shade talking bout I look like I'm about to go on a date.

I am what some people would call stay "dolled" up. Whatever that means. Us people who care about appearances call it taking pride in one's look.
Some people would say I am overdressed (the ones who did not take any effort). I would rather be
over dressed than under dressed and looking a hot mess. Usually I find
its the ones that really do not care about what they have on who judge
the most. Those are the same ones that once I come sashaying by, they
start patting/smoothing down their hair, putting on gloss, etc. You knew
what the heck you looked like before you stepped out the door. No need
to try and clean it up now lol.
Not saying one has to be done up
all the time but at least look like you tried. A woman should always be
clean, neat, brows groomed and hair did. The extra's are just icing on
the cake.

part of the 0 fuccs crew. why do we look down on people that get so called "dolled" up?
we used to dress to the 9's back in the day. It was a way of life. Ya'll have seen the historical pics. We've simply gotten so used to dressing down that now red lipstick and shoes is dressing up. I wear jeans, a blazer and lipstick and people ask me where I am going. I'm just like to the movies. |
LOL all these threads are a natural female response. I don't want to throw out the j word but when women see other women looking better than them, they like to throw shade anyway they can…hence all of the semi-condescending "I don't need make up" posts I see on BHM every so often.

I think getting 'dolled up' is different than dressing professionally.
'Dolled up' with the drag queen makeup, jewelry. weave etc just to go to Mc Donald = insecure, dying to get attention, and probably broke or in debt. Will go back home, have a drink and watch TV the rest of the day.
'Dressing professionally' = equals trying to build something for yourself, an education. a serious savings account, a job promotion .. owning your own business. You mind look over dressed at Mc Donald but people expect you are off to bigger and better things when you leave. |
No shade but this sounds like jealousy. When I see a woman dolled up I give her her props and keep it moving. It's usually the ones who put minimum effort into their appearance or don't really know how to dress that attribute wanting to look good to being insecure.
