Well, I have never associated "diva" with being able to sing. It was always all about personality.

I love Patti...but she's just trying too hard to stay relevant at moment.

She needs to relax

I don't associate diva with being able to sing either.. Patti has just been feeling some type of way about today's 'talent' and finally found her opportunity to try to speak on it...

First person I thought of was Rihanna.. She's def talkin about her

Mariah. Now thats a DIVA! Rihanna - her personality screams diva. Same with Tamar Braxton. Has nothing to do with vocal cords. Maybe she was a bit sassy in her hayday and thats why people started calling her that.

The first time I heard Diva used was in reference to Opera singers.  It's only in recent years (from what i've observed) that it has become synonymous with just being rudely extra.

A diva (/ˈdvə/; Italian: [ˈdiːva]) is a celebrated female singer; a woman of outstanding talent in the world of opera, and by extension in theatre, cinema and popular music. The meaning of diva is closely related to that of prima donna.

The word entered the English language in the late 19th century. It is derived from the Italian noun diva, a female deity. The plural of the word in English is "divas"; in Italian, dive [ˈdiːve]. The basic sense of the term is goddess,[1][2] the feminine of the Latin word divus (Italian divo), someone deified after death, or Latin deus, a god.[3
