I just can't believe some of these comments. Aren't we suppose to love our kids unconditionally or at least feel that way? I'm pregnant with my first child and already love it so much. I have dreams for my child growing up a certain way, but even when my child does something that I don't agree with, I can't imagine not loving them and not being there for them.

What happened to loving you're children no matter what, accepting them for who they are? Being a good parent? And I agree with everything freedom said. Don't understand goodm3's logic....

How do you "do" homosexuality, though? You do realize one can have a preference for one gender or another without actually engaging in the act of sex, right? You're essentially saying "be straight for 2 more years then, and when you move out and never come back then you can be however gay you want."

Also, a parent who refuses to suppress who their child is because it makes them "uncomfortable,"is nothing like a parent who allows their daughter to smoke and have boyfriends stay over in high school. One is actually creating a healthy living environment for their child, you know, that thing that parents are supposed to do.

meh u could say they're creating an open environment and safe exploration w/in their homes.

You could, but there are a lot of people who wouldn't want their kid smoking and sexing in their houses, and that is understandable. However, these "parents" who kick out these kids because they have a crush on someone of the same sex, and to defend that by saying "well, they were acting like they were grown" is nothing short of disgusting. There's no way that can be spun into some cutesy and innovative form of parenting. Those people still suck and use their religion to justify being abusive assholes to their own children.

the truth of the matter is that most black cultures are not very accepting of homosexuality. You may feel comfortable with it and find this kind of shunning disturbing (which it is) but I bet that if a survey could be done, the results would show that most of your parents are more likely not nearly as open as you are.

I understand what goodm  is saying.. If I started dating my parents would have probably gave me up for adoptionLOL or whopped my ash. They were really strict, I knew their rules, and if lived with them I would have to obey, or do what I wanted to do in secret.

This is crazy! I would still love my children no matter who they love. But, the only fear I would have is them having to deal and put up with sharing oxygen with small-minded, judgemental, ignorant, & fearful homophobes. It's a damn shame we can't just Live and Let Live. SMH
