PA Hospital Still Holds African Baby Hostage

In a recent interview, with FunTimes radio show, Sid Pendleton, the family spokesperson for baby Dillen and his mother Jade Nelson explained that Pennsylvania Hospital “waged a campaign to cover up poisoning, experimentation or attempted murder of baby Dillen Nelson”. FunTimes radio show focuses on issues of African and African diasporas in America. Mr. Pendleton informed that the newborn infant is being forced to endure morphine treatments against the wishes of the family. Dillen Nelson according to Mr. Pendleton was born on December 27, 2012 to a mother who suffers from Sickle Cell Anemia. The red blood cells form an abnormal sickle or crescent shape that carries oxygen to the blood. The odd shaped cells get stuck or break into pieces causing excruciating pain. Ms. Nelson is treated with morphine for the severe pain associated with the disease by her doctor who closely monitored her dosage during her pregnancy.

Mr. Pendleton related to the FunTimes show on A New World View Radio show on Sunday that Dillen was born in Pennsylvania Hospital located at 800 Spruce Street in Philadelphia, Pa. the doctors claimed to have a court order to forcibly medicate the baby with morphine. The court order given to Ms. Nelson, the mother was not signed by any judge. Since December 31, 2012 nonetheless, the 4 day old baby has been injected with morphine every 3 hours. Morphine is an opioid or a narcotic used to treat pain. It was not clear to the mother why her infant should be given doses of morphine. Her older child was born under the same conditions Ms. Nelson refused morphine treatments for her older child who reportedly has no problems and is doing fine.

When Ms. Nelson refused that form of treatment for her baby Dillen according to Mr. Pendleton she was denied access to the baby. Family members including the father was “thrown out” and the mother was put in “lock down” and not allowed to visit, hold or have any contact with her baby and “armed guards were posted around the baby.”

When demanding to have her son moved to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, Pennsylvania hospital according to Mr. Pendleton called in an erroneous Amber Alert against the mother, father and other family members. The family is upset about the actions being taken by the hospital because an Amber Alert is a child abduction alert bulletin communicated throughout the world that there is suspected child abduction. At the time of the Amber Alert the mother was locked in her hospital room and the baby was surrounded by guards and no family members were allowed to visit the hospital.

Mr. Pendleton specifically names Dr. David Feinberg, Dr. Michael Buckley and Dr. Jeffrey Gerdes of Pennsylvania Hospital as violating the rights of the baby and the mother. These curious actions by the hospital raise questions, suspicions and fears by the family. Questions raised are: What is being done to baby Dillen? Why is the baby being separated from the family? Why is the hospital not allowing the baby to be moved to another hospital? Is baby Dillen being used for experimentation?

The family fears the issue of hospitals and experimentation that African Americans have had to endure for years. Historically experiments have always been carried out on African Americans with little or no regards to ethics. Experiments carried out on unknowing African Americans include: the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment, the healthy African Americans had no knowledge that they were being injected with syphilis; Henrietta Lacks had no idea that her cells were being taken and used in experiments as well as the cells of her children and continue to be used today, fifty years later; Unnecessary brain surgeries were routinely performed on African American boy children in Mississippi in the 1970s; the Cincinnati Radiation experiments on African Americans in 1960s and l970s where they were injected or forced to swallow radiation to determine the reaction on humans; and the forced sterilizations and abortions on African American women lead by Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood and many, many others.

On Friday, January 11, 2013 the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement (INPDUM), a group who fights for the rights and justice for Blacks, along with Black is Back Coalition and its Healthcare Committee is calling to hold a demonstration at 11:30 a.m. outside of Pennsylvania Hospital for the release of baby Dillen Nelson. The demonstration will be held to apply more pressure to the PA Hospital regarding the case of Baby Dillen Nelson (INPDUM, 2013).
