....i came across this post on clutchmagazine.com

whats your view?
I kind of understand what the OP is saying...when i think about it, it seems like most of the YT natural ladies ive come across can pull off anything, from wigs to fros and bald heads...im thinking it may be a little more challenging for the older women, with the facial changes that happen with age in most people, to feel as confident, or feel they are as beautiful, with a TWA, twists etc?

ginadowling

And let’s not pretend that youth and thinness don’t play a part in this, either. I’m an older woman, and my double chin and nonexistent jawline aren’t going to support me wearing a TWA or two strand twists all the time. All the girls I see on youtube are under 35 and would be gorgeous no matter what their hairstyle; never any older or overweight women;

I have to have more traditional (read: straight and long) hairstyles in order to be considered pretty / acceptable because of my age and size.

this was one of the responses...

Honestly, you have a point. I may not agree with you that you need long/straight hair to be "accepted" or feel comfortable, but you do have a valid point, because that is YOUR experience, and i can see where you may be coming from. Sometimes we tend to dismiss any point of view or experience that doesnt say "yayyy, im having a ball with natural hair". We need to be honest about ALL the issues surrounding natural hair, because there are many. Many positives, and many challenges as well.

seems like her problem (with wearing natural hair) is more her weight then anything. I see a lot of elderly gray haired naturals that look amazing.

if she likes straight hair on herself then thats one thing but blaming age i don't get.

Well, I'm older and not overweight doing just fine with my natural hair.

There are some young ytubers that are overweight with double chins sporting twa's.

So, I'm lost... My mother is over 50 natural and sports a twa.. has for the past 20 years or so... I can't remember when she didn't wear a small fro.

I can see where she is coming from. Some women do have thin hair as they get older and if your hair is your crown...who wants to wear one with dents?

There are older naturals on YT, those with double chins and every combination in between... She needs to stop making excuses if its not something she wants to rock dont rock it and be done with it.

and if i'm keeping it totally 100,  i actually get more attention (from men anyway) with my fro than when i wear my hair str8.  regardless, i still like wearing my hair both ways...

The implied slur is that shorter natural hair is less attractive than long, straightened hair.

I wish I would go completely grey when I get older. The only people who go completely gray are the people on my paternal great-grandfather's side. My grandma isn't gray at 66, my great grandmother wasn't grey at 80 when she died. She just had a few strands, just like my grandma.
