It's pretty hilarious that people are throwing around generalizations about men from other countries, but the second somebody makes a generalization about black women people come out with the "not all black women are like that!!!"

It goes both ways. You can't make blanket generalizations about groups of people. Some middle eastern/african/european/asian/american men are controlling and abusive. There are plenty american men out here raping their daughters and wives and not serving a day in prison. Let's be real. I think the feminist movement caused a lot of american abusers to go underground and do their deeds behind closed doors, whereas in other countries they still feel comfortable being blatant.

It's a sense of entitlement. In their mind, they deserve you, and you have no right to turn them down.

Umm I don't think you are being completely honest about this situation.

Yes, there are men in The US, Europe .. Anywhere in the world that abuse their wives. I mentioned this actually in my post.

However, this is not the same thing as what goes on Middle Eastern, Indian and yes African countries. It's not on the same level because it is part of the culture for women to be subservient to men - and the law supports this. Often in India etc. when a woman complains that her man hit her .. the police take the stance that it's a 'family matter' and ship that poor girl BACK to that abusive situation.

In other countries (even Russia) women are not allowed to get a passport unless she is married and then her husband has to get it. Some countries in the Middle East don't allow their women to drive a car, marry them off at a young age and the list goes on and on. Yes, just when they burn up their wives .. it is bad .. but they are often not even prosecuted. If the wife gets raped will SHE get arrested for having sex outside the married and the man walks. How about that mess in Nigeria where they want to make it a law that anytime a female is married - she is a woman or some such  nonsense so what a man can marry a 5  year old and by law .. he can have sex with her? Again the list of human rights abuses is staggering. But their law supports this craziness. Yes, there are people trying fight this stuff .. but the point is ... their laws support it.

Abuse happens in the western world too – the difference is … you can have him arrested for putting his hands on you - because the law does not support abuse.

Of course EVERY GUY from those countries is not going to abuse a woman - but everyone makes blanket statements about issues .. though obviously it does not apply to EVERY man.

I now live in The Netherlands these kinds of men are always hitting on me. What the F would I be thinking if I were to get involved with such a man?

Nooo I only date Western men .. because I am Western and ummm I'm on the HIGH END of Western hee hee! so in all of my trips to the Middle East and Africa .. I enjoyed myself but I have never once been attracted to the men such that I would get involved. This is because a lot of your culture is tied to your family etc so even if that one guy is different .. he's gonna have to deal with his family's reaction to your relationship and how he 'allows' you to come and go as you please.

Of course, I have several Western girlfriends that are involved in men from that part of the world and they seem happy. But it's the culture and the way the men are raised to view women so he would have to be more than extraordinary to overcome that kind of upbringing.

For me I am just too turned off to the culture and ... the constraints under which the average woman lives to get involved with any of those guys. Never. Relationships are hard enough as it is without adding this tremendous issue with female empowerment to it. It’s not for me – plenty of other (Western) guys out there who would share my core value system.

I know a Haitian woman that this happened to. She's my mothers' generation, though and her ex-husband was crazy and abusive. She was in the process of leaving him.

It goes on in almost every thread about a group of people. Pretty sad to read most of the time. Good post.

It is.  But it doesn't stop folks from making generalizations.  I guess it is human nature.
