did yall see the movie? my bf who i consider to be a very race conscious individual and is also a screenwriter and was a film major called the movie "an ode to black people."  i told her i was hesitant to see it bc i refuse to see movies where white ppl are saving blacks and she said it was NOT like that. the previews are not an accurate portrayal of the movie apparently.

she said it pays homage to regular black ppl living their lives in the segregated past and casts them as heroes--Obama was obvi touched by it bc he mentioned it today while speaking...that you can't forget the people who worked as butlers and maids for YOU, people who could have ran corporations had they been given the chance.

i spent most of the march with this Alpha i met and he seemed like a racially enlightened lad and he said he couldn't even finish it..said he had to stop it was too emotional.  those 2 reactions have encouraged me to go see it along w/the fact that it has a black director and heavy black cast--negro obligation

I saw the movie and it was surprisingly decent *shocking*

I really feel like Lee Daniels sold this movie short judging by just the previews
And having Oprah 'I love to serve White people' Winfrey promote it didn't help (sell it as conscious) either

Either that or they or low-key geniuses for pretending to be ass-kissers and having the trailer look like a homage to Uncle Tom just to get Yt in the theater

i think that's exactly what they did...she wanted a number 1 movie and so did lee daniels. that's a feather in both their caps. how many black directors have no.1 movies outside of Tyler Perry? i can't even be mad

This little ole' "race conscious" white lady told me that she saw the movie with her husband in a very conservative part of Knoxville, Tennessee. She said the entire audience was white and during the movie a lot of the viewers were sucking their teeth, complaining and saying stuff like "this is bullsh*t! it didn't really happen".

She told me that she had to set some people straight and that she can't stand racist conservative white people. Old lady was kinda gangster if she wasn't lying and just trying to kiss up to me.

Maybe the movie isn't so bad if it pissed off white folk. Iono.
