I understand where this person is coming from though. People will take any situation and try to look for a loophole so they can make money off you. We live in an age where you have to double think helping someone because they might turn around and sue you for trying to help them survive.

I understand that she was following protocol, but at some point her sense of humanity should have kicked in. This issue is soooooo much bigger than her though. I feel badly for the family and the fact that they have to live with the the thought that their loved one could have been saved if someone had the courage to act.

The daughter is actually a nurse and saw nothing wrong with what this nurse did so.. Oh well It's sad if u ask me. I could fall out anywhere and would hope someone would do CPR on me. If not my children. Know how to and if we're home they'll getout neighbors. I also Wear a medical Id bracelet with my condition, meds, doc info and CPR.

I saw this on CNN today. Although I understand the nursing home's policy, in this scenario to me it just comes off as negligent. If you have no intention of starting CPR and knowingly have a patient/resident who stops breathing, the purpose of calling 911 is what at that point? You already know what they're going to tell you to do - initiate CPR and attempt to continue it until EMS arrives. So, if you can't or won't do it because of litigation fears...why bother calling 911?
ETA:
The nurse who called 911 in this case was actually not hired on to work in her nurse capacity but as a registrar or something non-health related.

Maybe the patient was aware of the policy prior to moving into the facility. Also, the patient may have had a Do Not Resuscitate order on file.

I'm not doing mouth to mouth but I'll do compressions until I'm tired, that's all you'll get.
