that said.. I have seen this in action. I've had women apologize to me for asking a question. It's just one of those societal things that is subtly taught to a lot of women.

IMO.
yeah its weird when that happens. makes me very uncomfortable. cause then the convo turns into..im sorry.. no its ok. Sleepy

Sometimes it just comes out, automatically.
Politeness, not apologetic

People use sorry as a form of emotional currency.

i had a friend that used to tell me not to say it whenever i did (unless it was for a good reason) because 'its a sign of weakness.'

This.

I still say it too much.
I started when ppl said I was mean and intimidating to be around so I did it to soften that.

I like this add.
I need to stop saying so often

it's probably more understandable if you actually read the article.  saying sorry at inappropriate times doesn't mean you have manners and were raised right.  it's more a sign of insecurity.

So, out of all of the things in he world that they could have shed light on, they chose this?

How disappointing, there is nothing wrong with having good manners. If I ask someone a question and I say sorry, then I am apologizing for taking up their time or it's like saying excuse me.
