OMG!! OMG!! OMG!!
I know how to do the technique now and it is not done with a crochet needle (well, kinda sorta). Im off to get the proper tool and will be back with new photos.

Okay, so I believe the technique is basically called "Ventilating." The same process for making wigs and/or lace closures. Below are a couple of tutorials on how ventilating is done. 

For the NO LEAVE OUT - NO CLOSURE it is best to use this method on top of the braid that will then become your natural part. I'm going to try this as soon as my needles arrive from His and Hers.

Shantel the looping process is just like crochet but much more tiny. What would you ventilate the hair to?

Im thinking within the loops of the braid whch would need to be very ting and flat
