Pakistani Baby Goes on the Lam After Being Accused of Attempted Murder

A nine-month-old Pakistani baby accused of attempted murder has gone into hiding in an attempt to avoid charges that could be, maybe, somewhat overblown.

Baby Musa Khan was charged with attempted murder along with his father and grandfather after a mob angered by gas cuts and price increases turned violent, throwing stones at police and gas employees trying to collect bills. Apparently, the baby was slapped with the charge when a victim complained that the whole family had beaten him up. The complaint was taken very literally.
The baby, out on bail, is supposed to return to court on April 12, but his grandfather, Muhamad Yasin, said the family hasn't decided yet whether to take him to court. According to Reuters, baby Musa hasn't been all that cooperative with police so far:
At his first appearance in court last week, Musa cried while his fingerprints were taken by a court official. Later, the baby sucked on a bottle of milk and tried to grab journalists' microphones as his grandfather spoke to the media. "He does not even know how to pick up his milk bottle properly, how can he stone the police?" Yasin asked journalists at the court last Thursday.

According to CNN, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif ordered the suspension of the officer who registered the case against the baby. Still, Musa's family is taking no chance. Their lawyer said yesterday that "The police filed a wrong, false arrest charge sheet and brought this innocent 9-month-old into this court room for an appearance."
Pakistan's police force is known to be rife with corruption, and Pakistan's The News International took the story as opportunity to reflect on the police force's incompetencies, noting:
How far police inefficiency and malice can go in Pakistan sometimes is hard to guess, as it nominated a nine-month-old infant as one of the accused of planning a murder, threatening a police team and interfering in state affairs. The interesting yet shocking development in how police works was unveiled on Thursday as an additional district and sessions judge, Rafaqat Ali Qamar, granted post-arrest bail to a nine-month old infant, Muhammad Mosa, on charges of planning the murder, threatening of a police team and interfering in state affairs.
Yasin suspects that the charges don't have all that much to do with the baby. "Police are vindictive. Now they are trying to settle the issue on personal grounds." He adds, "that's why I sent my grandson to Faisalabad for protection." Perhaps there he'll manage to finally shake his criminal lifestyle.
"A long-time hardened criminal, Baby Face Khan, as he is known to his cohorts, is refusing to talk to police and is on a self-imposed hunger strike, drinking only a few ounces of milk a few times a day. Also causing havoc by repeatedly soiling his pants . . ."
Baby Muhammad Mosa Khan celebrated with a bottle of milk after being cleared of being part of a ruthless gang of gas thieves who tried to kill police by hurling stones at them during a raid.
A baby murder suspect has been released and freed after police withdrew charges against the nine month-old boy who, although unable to enter a plea, gurgled throughout various court hearings.
The justice system in Pakistan has been held up to ridicule after a nine-month-old baby was arrested and charged with murder and police harassment in relation to a workers' dispute.
The saga has now come to an end, with the dropping of all charges against the baby who is still weaning.
At a previous court hearing, at which the child appeared, the judge refused to drop the charges and only international pressure and abject embarrassment forced the local police to admit their mistake and drop the case.
The child’s lawyer Irfan Tarar said the decision was made after an admission that the original charges were invalid because the police had failed to investigate them, AP wire services reported.
The nine-month-old baby boy was originally charged with willful murder, resisting arrest, threatening police and interfering in state affairs, but seemed blissfully unaware in court as he sucked on a bottle of milk on his father’s lap.
The child, who was apparently unaware that he has made world criminal history as the youngest ever murder suspect, was arrested by Pakistani Police in a raid involving at least 30 other suspects in a move, which observers suggest, is not their justice system's finest hour.
Unable to enter a plea, there were some gurgles from the baby during the initial arraignment.
The super ‘baby villain’, Muhammad Mosa Khan, was charged two weeks ago as part of a raid on suspected gas thieves in the city of Lahore, The Times of India reported.
Police accused ‘Mosa’, his father and others of throwing stones at security guards in what others claim was a protest against shortages of electricity in the city.
Police say the suspects tried to kill security officers by throwing stones at them.
But Khan’s father, Ahmed - who is also accused - said the crowd was protesting an electricity shortage.
His lawyer said that they were relieved that the ordeal was over.
