Not all afro hair is the same texture for one, so I'm not sure what afro-hair means. My brother has thick 3C hair, and I have tightly coiled 4B hair.

I've been natural for 19 years of my life, unlike many of these naturals that will be relaxing this summer or whenever the "trend" of "GOING natural" dies down I know my hair, it's texture and how it responds to just about any ingredient very well.

The dry curl is a one step perm, it just isn't a double process like a normal curly perm. Some people prefer that look to overly shiny, overly defined curls that usually don't look very natural. Not to mention the breakage that comes from double process curly perms. I should mention that my stylists, Gina, has done typical curly perms, jherri curls, relaxers, the whole nines for about 30+ years now.

Black people or African American or any other AFRO group have Afro hair. I did not say everyone has the same degree of curl. If when you shampoo your hair and with no help from product, let it dry. It will look like an Afro. In the 70's black people still had different curls/coils but they could still make an Afro. Now some Afros stood out more than others, but it was still an Afro. Thus we once called ourselves Afro-Americans.

I have also been natural for about 20+ years. I don't think "going natural is a trend which will die down." And the hair product companies have taken noticed. The Barbers thought locs would be a temporary trend, yet they are still going strong. Especially the addition of sista locs. I did a set of those last week.

I don't like the dry curl, because the whole nature of the "Curl" was that it required moisture. The extra moisture made our hair thrive. And moisture still does. The dry curls that you can wear curly or straight are not good for the hair imo. Because usually people experience breakage when they try to wear it straight for to long. Dry and AFro hair just is not a good long term relationship. For women who desire to grow their hair to great length such as BSL, WL or HL. This is my observation and opinion.

Lol people experience breakage from relaxers, naturals experience breakage from not properly moisturizing their hair or pretending as if they don't need protein. If you don't take care of your hair whether you wear your dry curl straight or curly most of the time then you will experience breakage. You need to take care of your hair according to how you typically style it, whether you use heat on it or not, and according to whether you have a chemical process done to it.

The chemical my stylist uses to do her dry curls is the same chemical used in japanese straightening perms (forgot the name >.<) and one of her clients that actually does blow out her hair now just to wear it straight has MBL hair.

If you use tons of heat to get it straight even after getting a chemical process done on your hair, and doing this every two weeks or so then you will experience breakage. That is just common sense honestly, it's hair not steel.

And also no not every AA person can achieve an afro, lol. I have an aunt with thin, fine, 3B curls whose hair grows down. An afro is a style that requires primping for most hair textures actually. And my natural hair needed to be picked to death into an afro, and I have thick, 4B texture hair, which grows downwards. Yet most people probably think it looks like an afro naturally, lol.

Anyways with my dry curl moisture is the least of my problems, my only current issue is knowing whether or not my scents products last long or what T.T I stop smelling them as soon as my hair dries >.>

Ugghh I can't stand my hair!! This breakage is driving me nuts! I admit I'm not DCing nearly as often as I should. My hair doesn't even seem to be growing longer since my touch-up in early Feb. I know it hasn't been 2 months yet, but when I first got my curl, I saw so much growth within the first month. Maybe all this breakage is preventing my hair from retaining length. I thought that I would reach shoulder length with the curl by June, but now IDK.

I think I might switch to a New Era Gel Relaxer or a thio-based relaxer, such as the Olgilvie Straightener. Even though my hair will look way thinner when straightened, I think the single process might be better for my hair. I might be able to nurse my hair back to health with either of these. Some women have posted that they switched from the curly perm to the new era or the thio relaxer, but I haven't read any updates, so I don't know. I'm leaning more toward the New Era. If my hair doesn't stop breaking before my touch-up in May, I may give the NE a try.

Of course the breakage is stopping you from retaining length o.0  I just got my retouch in what....march, and I already have half an inch of newgrowth I can feel. With my breakage or shedding.

I don't understand what switching chemicals will do to help with breakage, if you don't keep up with basic care with your hair you will get breakage...relaxed, texturized, or natural. I don't DC on a strict weekly basis, or even wash on a strict weekly basis but I always make sure to moisturized daily even if my hair doesn't feel like it needs it I do it. =S

Relaxing will just be the same if you don't take care of it :/ and the curly perm you have esp. needs care because it is a double process.

I revisited my Shea Moisture Deep treatment masque, I had like the whole tub still left from that awful deep conditioning attempt with it a year ago. (it still smells great, and is in perfect  tact lol) I used it today as a leave in under my curling souffle, and last night I tested it before using it today to go out as a leave in under my souffle, twisted, and went to bed. When I rinsed my hair in the morning it was soft and felt like I did an overnight DC. =D

I think this masque works better when left in for a long time, and mixed with an oil for slip and just to enhance it. It works nicely as a leave in though. I am gonna start using it under my curling souffle to use it up. =P

I love that shea moisture coconut & hibiscus shampoo.

I just washed my hair again with it, and I think it'll be replacing all my shea moisture shampoos, except for my african black shea moisture shampoo which is my clarifying shampoo.

The shampoo is like cowashing, except it does cleanse very well. It has such a nice foamy, slippery lather that your roots don't get tangled. And your hair doesn't get matted from it or anything. It's just a reallllyyyy great shampoo. I love it. =D

My current staples:

Shampoo: Shea Moisture Coconut & Hisbiscus Shampoo
Clarifying Shampoo: Shear Moisture African Black Soap Shampoo

Leave in(s): Shea Moisture restorative Leave in (probably gonna look for a new one soon, I'm bored of this one >.<) and the Shea Moisture Y&B Moisture Milk

Deep Conditioners: AO HRS, or Shea Moisture Anti Breakage Masque.

I am now wondering whether I should try one of those new Nubian Heritage products with Keratin in them, or go ahead and just get my aphogee product as a staple protein. I think I'm gonna buy one or two of the nubian heritage products though. The ones with henna and keratin look awesome =D

Today I washed, applied coconut oil to my head (ALOT of coconut oil) and then I actually am deep conditioning with my white camelia AO conditioner. I forgot what great slip it gave me. Detangling took about 10 minutes. LOL I am so happy this time around after my first touch up that I finally know what works for my processed hair, as well as my natural NG when it comes in more I wont be all frustrated with the two textures anymore ^__^

So I made another discovery with my hair today :D

I have been styling my hair weekly with just coconut oil, my curl enhancing smoothie, and the curling souffle.

(I'm using coconut oil because I am out of castor oil completely and need to get more...>.< lol)

Anyways I think I discovered why my hair always seemed like it needed to be washed so often, and why it would feel dry so soon after DC'ing.

Because when I usually style, I would use a leave in every single time, and apparently product builds up easily on my hair.

Also my hair still feels soft from my DC with the white camelia conditioner. I am kind of shocked lol ^^;

I don't know why it took me so long to figure out that less product is more on my fine strands of hair. I always thought I needed so much to coat through my hair since I have ALOT of hair, but the strands are very fine.

Anyways I am gonna be using the WC as a DC for a month or two and compare it with the HSR. The WC was easier to detangle with which already gives it a higher score. =P lol

I feel like the only one who post here anymore x_x lol

Oh well, I don't mind as I plan on starting a blog soon I can use my post here to use as reviews for many products^^;;;

Anyways I finally used my aphogee two Minute conditioner the other day.
I likee it...I haven't used the two step since I was natural, but the two minute conditioner is good, its a good medium protein treament, it smells nice, and I noticed less shedding and less hair in the comb.

I used that, then I did a quick moisturizing DC with the White Camelia again, it yielded once again buttery soft hair. I also noticed, since I had to style my hair and leave out of the house right after dc'ing that I didn't need a leave in of any sort, I just used coconut oil and my curling souffle. It was soft, bouncy, light, and shinyyyy =D

I think I finally have my staples. I'll have to see how the WC works when I have a ton of NG though, and during the winter of course since I didn't use it all winter, lol. >.<

But for now my staples will be..

Shampoo: Shea Moisture Coconut & Hisbiscus curl and shine shampoo

DC: Aubrey Organics - White Camelia

Leave in(s): Any leave in from shea moisture, or moisture milk from shea moisture. And for light protein, the aphogee pro-vitamin leave in.

Medium Protein: Aphogee Two Minute

Hard Protein: Aphogee Two step

I'm having so much fun trying new products though xD lol
I am looking at these hair perfumes from black onxy' websites lol, and I just ordered some more castor oil, and am finally trying jojoba oil, and grapeseed oil >.< lmao

I also want want of those seamless rake combs from that hotcombs website...

<.< I also want to use the beemine moisturizers for scent alone, I remember them smelling so good haha. I am more into scenting my hair nice fruity scents than anything it seems :P

Just clarified my hair with my shea moisture african black shampoo.

Did another protein with the aphogee two minute, and then DC'd with the WC and some jojoba oil....

I used my yucca & baobab milk as a leave in, used a few drops of grapeseed oil, and then sealed with castor oil.

My hair feels sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good.........I really like that WC, I think it may replace my HSR since my hair stays softer for a week or so rather than just a day or two. And I am loving the Aphogee two minute. I was wary of build up at first because it does have mineral oil, but my hair is just doing great, it's thick, it's retaining, no breakage, no insane shedding...That grapeseed oil gave me nice soft frizz free curls also without any styling product >.< lol
