Did Gina reply to you yet?

Sometimes it's better to call her salon, and let her or wendy know that you sent an email since they do get alot of online interest in their salon, so they get alot of emails daily >.<

I think your issue is the lack of protein. And on top of that not using a hard enough protein to really set the balance with moisture and protein.

Assuming the process you have done now is a double process (straighten the hair, then add more chemical to do the curl on rods, right?) you shouldn't worry about a protein overload, I mean obviously you should NOT be doing a major protein like Aphogee two step every single week, but one hard protein a month or every two months like the two step treatment, and then supplemented with lighter treatments like the TWO minute every week, or every other week is not ALOT when you have a chemical treatment done to your hair.

Now the chemical I have in my hair is a lighter chemical, along with only ONE process done. So while my hair isn't as processed as with a normal curly perm, I still keep up my protein treatments, and have been using my Aphogee pro-vitamin leave in, which is a light protein that I use about two times a week, and the rest of the week I will use a light moisturizing leave in when I style my hair.

It may be overprocessed though, which no amount of protein will really save honestly. I have had breakage before but never clumps of hair coming out :S

Let me know what Gina says okay^^

Hello Tammy. Yes, Gina has returned my e-mail. She told me that my breakage was from the line of demarcation. When my hair begins to grow, it's breaking between my new growth and the perm. She also told me that she has some protein products that were good to use. I told her I was interested, now I'm just waiting for her to reply to me again. She seems like such a nice person and has helped me so much without even seeing my hair. Is her salon in CT? Although I am from NYC, I might make that loonnnggg trip over there to go see her. How much does she charge for her curl? Can I get a Gina Curl over a curly perm? I am seriously considering it.

I used a hard protein (Aphogee 2 step) when I got my retouch 1 month ago. In another 2 weeks, I will use it again. Now I am using the Aphogee 2 minute when I wash my hair. I only used it once so far because I bought it last week, but this weekend I am going to use it again and continue using it every week. When I washed my hair last weekend, the breakage stopped. But as usual, I noticed breakage again 3 days later. So I think I need to wash & DC my hair twice a week instead of once. I think my hair is damaged, so DC once a week is not enough to strengthen it.

And yes, I got a double process. You are right about the protein. A lot of women on this site worry about protein overload. But I think my hair really likes protein, moreso than moisture. In the past, I've had moisture overload, but never protein overload. I even had moisture overload with this curly perm, and that's nearly impossible LOL. I try not to apply so much products to my hair now. I only use the curl activator and castor oil maybe 3 times a week.

I am interested in the Aphogee pro-vitamin leave in. I already have Infusium leave in, which I think is pretty similar to the Aphogee one. But since it's more protein, I don't use it. Even though my hair likes protein, I'm only using moisture 3x a week, so I dont want to overdo it with protein. I'll stick to moisture 3x a week, protein 2x a week when I wash my hair.

Your hair is very thick and full. How long is your hair if you stretch it out? It looks like you got A LOT of length over the year.

Hm I realllyyyy doubt Gina would put your hair at even more risk of damage by performing the gina curl over hair she believes to be breaking at the line of demarcation. That is the kind of breakage that has people big chopping their hair sometimes :(

But you should ask her, however I would only get another chemical treatment done on virgin hair, that is healthy. I didn't get my gina curl done on my natural hair for months because I wanted it to be as healthy as possible.
When I first got it done, on all natural hair(I was natural for 19 years lol I'm now 20 :P) she told me my hair was reallyyyyyy strong, heavy, and healthy. I didn't even need a protein treatment the day I got it done.

Anyways, yeah you might have to double up on the DC'ing with protein or moisture twice a week if it is that damaged now. =/ Also what are you washing your hair with? I use only sulfate free, Shea moisture shampoos. I love ALLL of their shampoos as I've said dozens of times on here already XD haha.

The gina curl is currently 250...however that is a new price, I paid the 175 I had paid for my first gina curl which use to be the original price. I am not a huge fan of the new price, but I look at it like this......I only will get this done once a year, and people spend more on cell phones, and their cell phone bills everyyyyy month xD lol So it's not so excessive to me.

Def. get a quoted price through email, and a receipt if you decide to get it done. Also NYC is about as far as Boston is from CT xD Plus you guys have a train that brings you right there which is the train I was hoping was in Boston around the first time I got it done, but it wasn't. =(

Oh I forgot to answer, my hair is about collar bone length stretched right now (in the back) - the front is shorter because that is where I had alot of breakage from the braids I wore. But it is about SL now so it's not too far away. ^^;

Gina told me my NG and processed hair were about half and half when I got my retouch. I was surprised also at all the growth, the shrinkage I get plays mind games with me :P lol

Okay, I understand. I hope I don't need to BC again. I've always had strong hair, so I have faith my hair will return to health.... hopefully!

I'm soo mad this is happening to my hair. Almost everyone says that the curly perm increases shedding in their hair. Of course, not as serious as mine though, but I think everyone has mentioned it. A lot of people, even in this thread, have mentioned that their hair has serious breaking/shedding from the perm like mine. So I know the perm definitely increases shedding to the hair, but for some people it's worse than others.

My hair has always been long, healthy, strong, and thick. The fact that it's like this is horrible. I've never imagined my hair to be in such a terrible state. Some women have switched from the curly perm to a thio-based relaxer.. It's basically the first step of the curly perm. This may be better for hair because it'll just be one process instead of two. I am interested in this, but I really don't want my hair straightened. With it breaking off so much, it might look too thin.

I was using Aubreys Organics shampoo and DC. I only used sulfate free shampoo & condish... BUT now I'm using garlic shampoo & condish, and it contains sulfates Ouch. I really want to stay away from the sulfates & all, but garlic is supposed to help stop shedding, that's why I use it. I hate all the curly perm products because they all have petroleum, lanolin, sulfates, etc. I stopped using all of those ingredients until I got the curly perm. I heard Target has a good brand of curl products, so I may buy those when I run out.

And yes, $250 is reasonable if you only go once a year. That amounts to around $20 a month for your hair, which is very reasonable. I know there's a Metro-North train from NY to CT. It'll take around 2 hours to get from NY to CT on the train. But it's worth it if she knows how to do hair. I'm waiting for her to reply back.

Also, half & half new growth is crazy! I know you were happy when you saw that lol. How long do you plan on keeping your hair in curls? Would you ever go straight?

My hair was cut into a bob so it's longer in the front than the back. When I first got my curly perm, the longest part was right below my ears. Now it's around collar bone length when stretched. So it's great growth for 4 months. I just hope my hair regains health so I can stop dealing with this breakage.

I don't know how long, probably when I get sick of paying for it xD lol but I am enjoying it now, and the good thing about the gina curl is gina is able to make the curls closer to my root look tighter, and they match my NG alot, so if I wanted to go natural I wouldn't have to BC or anything until my hair was a length I was comfortable with chopping at. =D That's another reason why I decided to get this curl done. And no I'd never get it chemically straightened, I just prefer more texture to be able to have more styling options, and a fuller healthier look if I do want to roller set it to wear it straighter.

Aubrey organics has great deep conditioners, I use the HSR, WC, and GPB to DC with from time to time - but I have heard their shampoos are really drying. I think I said before on here that I was using joico when natural, and after getting my gina curl done. Then I was like "why am I using this when it's drying my hair out so badly, the conditioners are not working for me...?"

so that is when I slowly switched all my products over to Shea Moisture, with somce AO DC's and my kinky curly custard for styling. I style, and keep my hair healthy with most of the same methods someone with natural hair would do, use the same products. I may use more protein than most of them but in general the way I style my hair, and keep the moisture up to par is the same way many natural hair ladies do and with the same products =D

I think you should try out the Shea moisture: moisture retention shampoo. They sell it at walgreens and Target, it will help your hair retain moisture after shampooing, and if you feel the need to clarify at all you could use their african black soap shampoo for that - that is what I use about once a month.

I know what you mean, my hair has always been big and fluffy, and thick. When I noticed breakage at the front of my hair from the braids I knew it was time to stop wearing them >_<;;

I will look into using the Shea products when I run out of what I'm using now. I do love AO DCs, so I may continue using them.

How do you like the Kinky Curly Custard? I am interested in trying it, but the price is high. I'm afraid to buy it because if I don't like it, it'll be a waste of money.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT SEND IT TO MEEEE >.> lol

And yeah the price is high for the amount, but it is a good gel. Plus I use a very small amount, I have never used any other gel so I can't make any comparisons but the curling custard is really good at giving me a nice soft lasting hold. If you use too much though it will get crunchy. It also has a balanced PH unlike alot of other gels - which is why alot of other gels people say the gels dry their hair out. ^^;

I am going to target today, I hope that I can find the shea moisture curling souffle :D

O.EM.GEEEE...

lol so I just got back home from Target like an hour ago, got my curling souffle =D

So first thoughts....

It is like jello, the texture, the 'firmness'...I have to punch my fingers into the product to get it out.

The smell is like a coconut smoothie, I love it. The color and texture once warmed on my hands is similar to the kinky curly custard actually. But the smell......HMMMMM it is just yumtastic....I love the smell of fruit mixed with coconut <3

I am confused as I didn't get the 'sticky' or overly-oily reaction that so many seemed to have with this product. I applied to soaking wet, unwashed (for about a week now) hair, and hair that I had already applied castor oil to earlier...

Yet it doesn't feel oily at all, I mean the only products I really use daily is a light leave in, and an oil so there isn't much product on my hair and the leave in and oil usually get rinsed every single day anyways....but I don't have any product residue on my neck or ears either, I was expecting this gel to be super oily and producty lol o.0 But then again I think the BAD reviews from the curling souffle prepared me when it came to appling the product I used VERY little product on four large sections..

Anyways,

My hair feels soft now though, fully dry, it gives a light but somehow 'firm' hold..I like that there is glycerine because I can't wait for the humid days and how big my hair will get. The souffle also seems veryyyyy moisturizing. I also notice my edges, which I don't have processed so they are still 4B have nice definition...I don't usually put styling product on my edges but I wanted to test it out anyways and put some on. =D

I now officially have EVERYYYYYYYTHINGGGG in ONE line that works well for my hair.

ALL of my shea moisture shampoos, I love them all<3
My shea moisture leave ins, love them all<3

My shea moisture anti-breakage masque and clay masque I love them too as DC's<3

And now my shea moisture curling souffle =D

I think when I use up my kinky curly gel, and AO conditioners I will go a few months with just shea moisture products only. ^___^
