This is a real toss up for me.

I have always been one to say use the net for all the reasons that have been posted (braids lay flatter, can add tracks where needed, etc) however  I have noticed that even when I use the applicator bottle to moisturize my scalp while wearing a net I can't get good access to all areas of my scalp and when I take down the install my scalp is crying out for mercy.

I just got a new install last night without a net and I must say that the braids lay as flat as with a net..

What I may opt to do in the future is use a net for part of my install (close to my leave out) as I have fine hair and always find this area the hardest to do.

I like the net for when I want to wear a Ponytail.

net, definitely. it feels more secure to me. but a word of warning: it itches really bad when the net rubs against your scalp so be prepared to pat or use a rattail comb to scratch.

I use a REALLY soft weaving net. The material and structure is similar to a regular wig cap, but its a weaving net. Makes for easier manipulation when scratching, moisturizing, etc.

I prefer a net. I love the sheet net when I so my self installs because the net is much sturdier and since I like to brush my hair I dont hair to worry about my braids coming loose. I perfer the cap net when someone else does my install mainly because some folks dont have a clue when it comes to securing the net and they either make it too tigh t or lopsided LOL But all in all I Heart net weaves

I have found the net to be more versatile.

the net will work only if u don't have an itchy scalp. trying to scratch a scalp covered w a net is beyond frustation

I have to have a net..Had a net install last about 4-5 months,lol.
I do NOT moisturize under my net tho. I did the first time and had all types of gunk (conditioner that got trapped and didnt rinse fully out ) in my braids when I took the weave down. I know most women moisturize and seal and all that stuff, but I don't and havent had any issues and my hair grows like crazy under my net.

It does itch a lil bit the first few days..I use a stylus from an old cell phone, lol.

I prefer the sheet over the net cap w/ the elastic. The elastic type tend to separate my leave out from my weave a lot quicker, creating a gap.
