I'm a new member to the site. My name is Carla, and I'm 19. I'm from Barbados in the Caribbean, but I just started university in Brazil this year, so I'm going to be here for the next four years. My hair is relaxed, and is an inch or two short of bra strap length.
In Barbados, I normally did all of my hair care myself (washing, combing, moisturizing etc) but I always went to the hairdresser when it's time to relax new growth. I do this every three months.
Now I'm in Brazil, and from what I've been told and what I know, there are not many (if any) black hairdressers/specialists in my city. I brought my own relaxer kits (Motions), and my friend attempted to straighten it for me twice in June. the new growth is not as curly as it was before, but it's still pretty kinky. My roots have been hell on me, and my hair can't seem to lie flat anymore. Most of the time I just put my hair in a jaw clip because that's all I can manage to do with it. It's probably about 3 or 4 inches of new growth.
Now my friend has left Brazil, and I'm going to try and relax it myself. I've never ever self relaxed before, and I'm terrified that I'm going to do something wrong and lose all my hair :(
Please, can you give me some tips and tricks for self-relaxing? Anything would be great. Thank you.
