This is where I'm at.
This thread is thought provoking though. I haven't used heat since my big chop, but I wait in anticipation of busting out that blow dryer one day to "See how long it is." This thread made me realize that it is an odd way to think and doesn't really make sense.

THIS!

I'm very tired of that constant idea that straightening hair means you're trying to fit into "white" society and the idea that wearing your hair natural means you're making a political point against society.

I went natural because relaxers thinned and broke my hair from bad practices.

Healthy hair above everything else.

For some people it's a big deal in the natural community. They love to talk about how natural hair is versatile but want to dictate what is or isn't acceptable natural hair activity. Personally I don't know why anyone cares what someone else is doing with their hair.

I flatiron my hair 2x a year basically to check my growth progress.

But if we're going to pull a hardline on what is or isn't acceptable as a natural, then technically speaking one should only use all natural products (from the earth with no hard to pronounce ingredients - so say bye to Miss Jessie's and all the other "all the rage brands" that have fillers in them), NOT attempt to manipulate their curl pattern by rocking twist outs/bantu knots, etc, and above all else NOT add any chemicals ever to their hair - including color.

If the above was the litmus test for naturals, the majority of naturals would be kicked out the club. And hence, I don't care if someone wants to be natural but straight instead of natural & curly.
