If I wanted to determine my hair type, which I think is 4b,would I evaluate my hair while wet or dry?

Hi, I'm new to the forum, though I've been reading a bit here and there and lurking for over a year on several hair sites, hoping to find tips tricks and advice for my hair! I'm not sure what my hair type is, but I can tell you that it is HIGHLY textured and very thick...I've tried many of the products recommended online for type 3s and 4s...but I haven't found anything that has brought any noticeable difference to my hair. My hair is just around shoulder length when natural, and around mid back when straight....BUT I haven't cut it in at least 8...yes 8 YEARS...which means that it isn't growing much (which is why I'm scared/refuse to trim it). I have never permed/relaxed my hair, but there was a period of about 3 years where I used to flat iron it everyday. I stopped that about 6 months ago, and now I usually just leave my hair natural, with a TON of conditioner left in....Anyhow, sorry for the long intro, I just wanted to post to find out my hair type (I'll attach a couple of pictures below), and more IMPORTANTLY, to find anybody who has similar hair to mine (super thick, but sometimes seems more wavy than curly) and how they deal with it and take care of it!! I read quite a few pages from this thread and others...but none of the hair types seem to match mine very closely...thanks for any help![IMG]uploads2/20100313_092543_Natural3.JPG" height="469" width="470" />[IMG]uploads2/20100313_092815_natural2.JPG" height="391" width="498" />

Beautiful hair...Wow your hair looks similar to my 13 yr old daughter's hair (BSL) and I been trying to figure out her hair type. This thread helps.
