Well many of my beliefs are just things I've evolved to based on my experiences and learning new things and what not.

I think I'm just trying to figure out how to be authentically myself...I'm realizing that means I will have contradictory beliefs/thoughts/behaviors. It's just sort of uncomfortable...but I guess growing is an uncomfortable process.

I'm black.

Was ''adopted" by a white family. The sister I'm talking about is from my white family (we're only 3 weeks apart in age).

The brother in law is full Chilean.

It's different. But if that makes him happy lol.

I'm actually going to hyphenate. It's actually a Puerto Rican tradition, and a coincidence since my fiance is PRican.

But my reasoning was/is:

my last name is pretty common "Smith"...his last name is the Smith of Hispanic names --> "Garcia".

SO I didn't want to just trade one common name for another. So, Smith-Garcia...he was a little Sleepy about it...but eff it, it's me that has to do a name change, not him.
