like noneyons said, they wont do better lest their forced to. there are a small number who are on it temporarily while they get to a better position, some who are just used to it but most like that lifestyle and aint trying to put forth the changes to get off it b/c its easier to do little to nothing and get free sh*t. they laugh at squares who work hard everyday and cant afford the fly weaves and flashy clothes. its like how bill gates is a billionaire and looks broke but niccas will be broke and look like millionaires

Where can I find information about specific Section 8 buildings? To find out if a building has a Section 8 contract, download the national database from www.hud.gov

sorry to bust your bubble

But even new luxury buildings have to offer some low cost units in order to get the subsidies they depend on to build (in major cities)

If you really want to keep away from those beneath you, you might have to buy a house in an upscale neighborhood

Until then you just may encounter the poor

Well in her case, what's the REAL issue? She mad she has to pay that much? If that's where your friend wanted to live, then she has to pay. Especially if she wouldn't qualify or is too proud for section 8. If the person next door isn't bothering her, destructive, nasty then what's the problem? They qualify for section 8 and apparently the owner accepts it. It's something deeper here.

people want to live around people they assume are like them

I guess she is assuming (or maybe she knows) the section 8 neighbor is not like her

There is a difference between low-income units and section 8. Luxury apartments (well above market rate) have to have a certain number/percentage of units that are a particular percentage (maybe 30%) cheaper than the apartments in the building. I think the idea has something to do with slowing gentrification, etc.

It's a city by city thing. But section 8 has a lower financial threshold.

And I totally understand wanting to avoid it. A girl I knew lived in a building with section 8 units and her apartment would randomly smell like weed if people went outside to smoke. I'd be pissed off.

Basically this about folks not wanting to see someone who is supposedly beneath you on the same level or above you.

also, if the woman passed her credit check and income check for a $2300 apartment, I don't think she could get the section 8 unit.....but I may be wrong

your friend makes more than 70k - 80k or so....my math is probably off
