So black women's natural hair state is somewhat defeminizing?

jones no one said that its all done as protective styling..

im done with this convo though.
we will never see eye to eye on it

i will keep wearing my wigs and weaves, self hating, all to conform to the white standards of beauty because that is the most important thing.

If you're going to rock a texture that isn't going to be easy to dupe with your leave out, commit to it, and do a whole head weave or a wig.

You already stated that many black women don't like their hair.. and I agree..
When you have tighter curls you have to deal with shrinkage.. When your hair shrinks it doesn't show length you actually have. Having long hair itself is seen a feminine.
With looser textures you can still see length... If most black women had hair like tracee ross and chilli from tlc i doubt you'll see as many weaves and flat irons..

I totally agree with this. I love my natural hair, but considering how kinky coily hair has a whole different set of rules that you have to deal with in terms of cold weather, humidity, etc. I don't wear my hair out all the time. Yes, sometimes it's because I'm PSing. And other times it's because I don't feel like wearing it. I rock my hair natural in twist outs, and also flatironed. Doesn't mean I'm dealing with self loathing. it DEFINITELY means I love being able to switch my look up with minimal effort.

With a damn near 75% shrinkage rate on my APL hair, WNG's are NOT an option. So by default I have to do some type of styling the night before on my hair in order to have it be up to my standard of presentable for outside wear. Once you start factoring in things like the time needed, etc, it's understandable why a lot of women turn to extensions/weaves/wigs as an alternative for when they may not be in the mood to put the effort into their own hair on the daily.

ETA: I put very minimal heat on my natural hair, so pretty much any "set styles" have to be done the night before. Hence, when I wear my hair out, I do have to plan (to an extent) in advance what it is I want to do with my hair

I am natural, love my natural texture, yet wear upart wigs as a protective style *shrug*
It's winter time...And I aint got time for the kinky curly wash and go routine while the weather is cold.
Folks do what is best for them..My hair is braided under a wig and I revisit it once a week.  Meanwhile, I am tending to other things in life and my hair still look good.  Does that mean I dislike my hair? No..It means I'm doing what's best and versatile for me...
