You don't think L. Boogie was a sex symbol in her prime? |

You totally missed my point
I wasn't saying that your opinion is that teenagers shouldn't be given condoms
I honestly don't care what your opinion is about that. The point is your ideal that "people should choose their role models wisely and stop wanting to emulate celebrities" is ideal but not realistic. Like how teenagers shouldn't have sex; ideal but not realistic
But the fact is that young people have sex and young people emulate celebrities. Are we gonna just ignore that because we feel it's morally wrong? Should celebrities ignore the fact that they are highly influential (even though they knew they would be before striving for fame?). Sure! If they don't care... they can do whatever the heck they want
Ignoring isn't gonna make it not real

Your argument reminds me of the "teenagers don't need condoms because they shouldn't be having sex" argument. Yea, they shouldn't
but they do and that's why WE older, wiser ones have to hold ourselves
responsible for the message we send young people, ESPECIALLY when we are
in a position to affect the masses
|
OT: I totally disagree with that mindset. I am SOOOOO
for sex ed and providing condoms in HS, etc. I grew up in an evangelical
household and can speak from personal experience that repressive
regimes don't prevent things from happening, just makes them happen in
secret. Pretending their is no problem is not an effective remedy.
Education is the key to prevention or at least to doing things in an
informed and intelligent way.
On topic: ....

I see you didn't add the "on topic" part I wrote. Again, if you're given positive alternatives (parental role models) to the smoke and mirrors (celebrities/personalities/etc), then you're less likely to spend your time trying to emulate something that's not real to begin with. That's all I'm saying. Actually being a parent and spending time instilling values in your kids can curb much of the influence that a celebrity can have over the youth.

For those women who are hating on Bey's nose jobs....I hope you aren't wearing weaves. |
true, true....
because surgically altering your face is very comparable to hair that you can put in and take out whenever.
|
In terms of doing something to "conform" to a white standard of beauty.
|
They picking and choosing...smh. If I get straight hair like a white woman...who am I to judge the broad getting a nose like one? Permanent or temporary it's the same thing.
|
Lol, I personally do not care what someone perceives my beauty choices to be and that is why I don't get mad/offended at what others do - even with Nicki Minaj and her insane get ups. I bought and paid for it whether it's my false lashes (my serious obsession), whether I'm rocking my natural hair or a weave. When others start ponying up for the cost, then their opinion will matter. And so far, only the fiance has even come with Ben Franklins to add his input.
