Yes the coast is beautiful and if you need the ocean, you will miss it.  I like pasadena, where I went to hs, but really, its just a lot of subdivisions, that feel disjointed to me now.

Dallas is metropolitan, reminds me of LA, no ocean, but it is a great economy, lots of jobs and has a great rail system.  And the mens all be trying to holla, even at an old brown skinned woman like me, lol.  And its cheap.

I was going to suggest Texas..it's cheap there and the job market is pretty good

I live here. I just got out of college and yes it's very expensive. I'm still with my mom until I get an apartment maybe a little later next year. You do need a car, but I got around the car situation for four years until I finally got one (it depends on the person and area you live in). I am not so fond of the job situation because you need o network your a$$ off here. However, LA has everything and theres so many people to meet. The dating is cool for me, there's good guys in places you would never expect just keep your eyes peeled. I don't think it has anything to do with color. I am light skinned but I see girls of all colors getting guys. It's just LA is the mecca of light skin, curly haired, exotic girls and they're everywhere so it may just seem like they're pulling ALL the guys.

& NOOOOO, I dont date American boys, too jaded.

But THANKS for all the feedback, sooooo LA doesnt seem so great, since i have no degree or car- my cousin cosigned half of what was posted. I'm thinking Oakland might be better. Seems like a cute little hipster town

There are parts of Oakland like that...it's def not all bad. Plus you have the escape of Berkeley which is a really cool town and sf as your escape...oak just has the more affordable rent. As far as the dark skinned thing is concerned, you'd be fine.

I mean you can live without a car but public transportation is a bitch. You need a job, look for surrounding areas of LA too though... I Love Cali and he weather is not that damn great...

LA's metro isn't bad. I mean, its no NY CHI or BOSTN

but it'll be tough to do a job search and commute to school without a car.

why not?  it's cheaper to live in Oakland and SF is no. 2 after Manhattan as far as most densely populated city in the u.s....so there's jobs, the transit is amazing, and San Francisco county has the highest minimum wage in the country as well.  she can't lose if she's looking for a california city with no car, no job, and a great junior college.  lots of resources there.  maybe i just miss sf. Cry

What about Orange County? It's a bit of a commute from LA but it's so much cleaner/prettier. I grew up there, didn't drive, and found OCTA to be a pretty efficient way to travel. OC has a reputation for being expensive but it really is comparable to LA. Actually, rent wise, I think it's better. I have friends who rent decent apts for around $1300 in desirable neighborhoods of OC. Most of our LA friends are paying at least $1900 if they are in a decent area. I have dark skin and have never found dating to be difficult out here. Lots of men, pretty beaches, great weather. Living in Orange County is pretty great all around.
