She was a nurse. A nurse is considered essential staff. If she was assigned to work, then she had to be there. It's the nature of her job. She can't just "leave" when there is an evacuation like everyone else if she is scheduled to work.

But taking your kids out in the middle of a hurricane is a good idea?

fck no, but she will be living with that grief and loss for the rest of her life.

I feel bad for her and everyone else because NY is not used to hurricanes. I don't think people knew how to react. I've been in 2 hurricanes and we didn't evacuate either time. We also didn't go driving either.

But that is because in driving school & other emergency related courses, we are taught NEVER to drive through water in those situations because you can NEVER tell how deep the water is. I don't know what I would have done in her situation besides not drive.

A lady was banging on the doors around here one night and I wouldn't have even got up since I was alone, had she not of been so persistent. I yelled through the door in anger cause she was banging like a crazy person "WHAT?!" She yelled back "My daughters are missing!" When I heard the fear and pain in her voice I swung that door open so fast. I find it hard to believe he did not hear the panic in that womans voice, he wasn't scared of her.

she will be in my prayers. hopefully ppl have learned from her mistake.. and gawd forbid ppl find themselves in a similar situation-- they are better prepared.

I have tried to stay out of this thread because it breaks my heart that this woman lost her two gorgeous babies and that this man wouldn't open the door.

I agree that she shouldn't have been trying to drive in those types of conditions. But at the same time, I do not know her circumstances behind choosing to leave at that moment. I want to believe that something was threatening her and her children's safety to the point that she felt like staying put was more dangerous than attempting to make a break for it. I wish she would have left much earlier.. as in before the storm actually hit. I cannot imagine how she and her husband are feeling right now. Which btw, where in the hell was he during all of this??

As for the man who didn't open the door. He done what a lot of people would do. He did not answer the door. We live in a world now to where you cannot trust people like that anymore. A lot of people get seriously injured or killed trying to be kindhearted.

Me personally, I rarely answer my door for anybody other than my sister, but if I looked outside and saw a woman struggling with her children in that situation, I would have let her in and prayed to high heavens that she wouldn't chop me to pieces and grind me up a garbage disposal.

Now, I believe the bastard is lying through his damned teeth and he knew that it was a woman outside his door. He knew damn well that wasn't a man outside. I feel inclined to believe that it could have been inkling of race factored into his decision.

He likely does not feel bad about it at all. He just feels some kind of way because his face was plastered all over the news everywhere. Which that is fine. I do believe in karma and he had better hope he is never in a situation to where the kindness of strangers can mean the difference between his life or his death.

I feel the same way. The last thing I want to do is put this on her, as I can't imagine what she must be going through right now. To have her family decimated like this... I would be catatonic. But saying she had bad judgement is not the same as saying it was her fault. It's just sad all around...
