Hi Ladies, it's been a minute, missed you all!Embarrassed

Here's my question. Now that the summer is over Cry and it's going to start getting cold, I want to get my flat ironing regimen together. But I remember from last year it was hard to moisturizing my hair when flat ironed and would experience itchy scalp and breakage from it being dried out.

I have browsed a couple of hair sites and found that I could use warmed oils with tea tree oil mixed in for the itchy scalp but what about a good moisturizer for the hair shaft and ends?

What were/are you Natural ladies using to moisturize in between because I'm trying to get my my flat ironing to last from 2-3 weeks if possible.

TIA

Focus on the moisture BEFORE the flat ironing...DC overnight or with steam

During the week you can NOURISH your hair with a light oils like Jojoba, Coconut, or Vatika

Oh so nicka, you can't moisturise flat-ironed hair with normal moisturiser?

Most moisturizers are water based so you would have to worry about reversion...Perhaps you could use the tiniest amount possible...

coconut oil and olive oil should work very well because of their properties to penetrate the hair shaft and to moisturize.

you can use a water based moisturizer, but because it has water, it will cause your hair to revert.

going 3 weeks between flat ironing may be asking for breakage...you're going 3 weeks without allowing water to touch your hair.  no matter how much you dc before that flat iron, that added water won't stay for 3 weeks.  so, your best bet is to try to keep the water levels in your strands at a normal level by moisturizing...and moisturizing doesn't seal water into our strands; it just makes it harder to evaporate. but, if you don't want to keep your hair bone straight and do not mind spraying water on your hair here and there, maybe 2-3 weeks may work.

Use a deep moisturizing conditioner before flat ironing..Smile  That should hold you for 7-10 days and use some light oils if needed during the week.  I don't know about 2-3 weeks, though without gettng the breakage.Confused Do you have a dry scalp?

Thanks ladies, I think I'll try to keep it at 1 and 1/2 weeks max. I really don't want breakage.  Guess the oils are the best thing, will check some different oils.

I agree with Nicka........apply as much moisture as possible before flat ironing and just nourish the hair with coconut oil. I got my hair pressed Friday and I've just been adding coconut oil to my ends as needed.
