Hey may be lying but it's not uncommon for the party to tap certain ppl who they feel have a good chance of winning and encourage them for the sake of the party to campaign.
A lot of former presidents come out and say they did not enjoy being president.

Jimmy Carter for instance, it's been noted that he did enjoy "playing politics" and it's a major reason why he had trouble with congress bc he didn't want to do what takes to appease them.it is often said that he was a better man than he was president.
George Washington did not want to be president .
William Taft thought it was more glorious to preside over the Supreme Court than to be a president.

Colin Powell is to have had everything it takes to be a terrific president except the will and arrogance to run .

Not saying its true just saying its not unheard of.

I've heard this from some losers of the presidency also.

On a smaller scale Senator Jim Demint left the senate because he is more of an idealogue not a legislator.
He says he doesn't really even like politics.

This is a perfect example of the Freudian Defense Mechanism:RATIONALIZATION. those douchebags...

For those who aren't aware:
Rationalization is a defense mechanism that involves explaining an unacceptable behavior or feeling in a rational or logical manner, avoiding the true reasons for the behavior. For example, a person who is turned down for a date might rationalize the situation by saying they were not attracted to the other person anyway, or a student might blame a poor exam score on the instructor rather than his or her lack of preparation.

Rationalization not only prevents anxiety, it may also protect self-esteem and self-concept. When confronted by success or failure, people tend to attribute achievement to their own qualities and skills while failures are blamed on other people or outside forces.

Jimmy Carter might be one of the few I believe.  However, I do not believe a man who has tried twice, went through a grueling process to even win the nomination and spent so much of his personal funds to become President does not want to become president. A man who did not even prepare a concession speech. *insert guffaw here*
