Hello Ladies,
I haven't been on here in a long time. Well, let me catch you guys up. I've been transitioning to natural since Sept 29, 2006 and it'll be one year next  Saturday (YAY!). My hair is growing in the front, sides and back, but is breaking off in the middle. My hair is roughly 5.5 to 6 inches all around except for a small area in the middle. In that small area, my hair is about 2 inchesAngryCry and in other parts near that area (still in the middle) it's 4 inches long.

What could be the cause of the middle of my hair being the shortest/breaking off? Could it be stress, me having hypothyroidism or a fight that happened 4.5 yrs ago when someone pulled a B**ch move and pulled my hair out (I still beat her butt thoughOuchOuch)LOL? But I do remember it growing back when I had my Jheri curl (yeah, I had one 4.5 yrs agoWacko) and it grew but then it started falling out again. I don't know what's going on. My hair is also very dry and I haven't found a product yet that moistures my hair w/out leaving it feeling greasy and I have really bad flakes in my hair.

Please help me! Thanks ladies

Had the same problem.  My guess is that the chemicals that part of your hair.  If you've ever had chemical burns there that would explain it.  Even if you haven't chemicals impact the scalp and that area make take longer to recover.

The good news is that it will grow.  Make sure you baby that area.  Extra pre-poo, scalp oil, DC.  All will be well sis.

Centered is right about the possible causes of breakage in that area. I think that past relaxers (even though I haven't had one in 2 years) are the cause of my slow growth in my crown and edges. I have been successful so far by adding extra moisture, extra protein during protein treatments, leaving my DC on longer and massaging that area gently with my growth aids. As far as your dry hair goes, it's a crap shoot to find a moisturizer that works for you. Try S-Curl No Drip Activator Moisturizer. That works great for me and it has none of the "no-no" ingredients like mineral oil, petrolatum and cones. Also, don't forget to seal with a small amount of oil. I would also suggest that you try a full head baggie a few nights per week to help with your moisture retention. If the flakes you are talking about are product flakes, this should stop as soon as you switch your products. If it is dandruff, I suggest using MN to help stop it. MN is found in Monistat (I use 4%) it also doubles as a growth aid. HTH
