First let me start off by saying...

Yea! I'm no longer a newbie!!! Clap

Okay, has anyone ever worn microlink extensions? Would you recommend it and what type of hair do you purchase?

The lady that will be doing the install told me that I could purchase hair on the weft and she will tip the hair for me, (Sounds like a lot of work) or I can buy the hair tipped already but it will be more expensive.

Help!

This is where they clamp the little metal circle around your hair and the extension?

I had this with remi bohyme hair and honestly, I didnt like it. You can FEEL all those little metal bits in your hair and if your man plays in your hair, youre totally exposed. I also dont like how you have to be careful how you part it and pull it up cause your links will be showing. Forget about a smooth pony unless you leave out a good bit of your perimeter too...

I sweat a lot in my hair, so these were sliding out pretty quick. I also have fine hair so that didnt help. I had to buy a super looper brush to brush these too cause regular styling tools snatch the links out.  I didnt pre-tip the hair the first time, and it shed like mad, so I tried again with pre-tipped, totally bulky in the link, hope your stylist is better than mine! Total mess! HTH

I had microlinks once.  I think for them to look nice, you have to have a nice amount of "leave out hair".  You also want to get a hair texture that is extremely close to your own.  The person who did my hair pre tipped my hair.  The process will probably go by faster if you have pre-tipped hair.  Just be careful that the keratin is cooled before she it applies it to your hair, so it won't stick....

I think MzKOKO does microlinks...ask her!

theres two kinds of microlinks. One is the "older " version which doesnt have a silicone coating , like the newer one and the links are pretty big, if not installed properly it may cause hair beakage...the newer kind closes very flat and the links are smaller, it also stays in the hair and doesnt slip out easily like the older version did.
I do prefer shrinkies over microlinks though.
check www.drlocks.net they sell all the stuff in good quality for a decent price, they also got a demonstration site, if you want to do it yourself

I had microlinks. You can buy everything you need @ Sallys. The tool to open/close the links is about 30 dollars, the little hook is 10 or so , the links are about 8 for a pack of 100. The links come in black and light brown if I remember. The hair can get pretty expensive ($70+) and the only hair they have @ Sallys (@ mine, atleast) is "caucasian" hair.. meaning, it wouldnt blend well with my own natural pressed hair. I made my own links using cheap human hair + nail glue.. you can buy a pot to tip the hair another way.. dunno how much it costs but it surely is less messy than trying to tip them with nail glue! I did mine myself, I only put them in the back of my head and I did about 70 links.. they stayed in pretty well and nobody knew I had them.. but I didnt have anybody really playing in my hair, either. Since I had so few, they were pretty spaced out so I imagine if I had done a full head they woulda been more noticeable if I hadn't left so much out. I do know they are WAY less detectable than tracks/micros/bonded hair. I had mine in for about a month and I had to replace a few but other than that it was great.. If you take them out properly you should have literally no damage, the links work by clamping the hair together so as long as you dont try to remove a link that hasn't been loosened properly, it should just slide right out.

Whew! Ok. I'm done. I'll see if I can scrape up some pictures

I have done them myself and i love them because i can wash and oil my scalp easily. Below are a few tutorials that i found on youtube. Also you can purchase pre-tipped hair on ebay and also the links. I hope this helps. Sorry i don't have any pictures of my install. I am a little camara shy.

I looked into this once but I get worried about the links falling off taking a bunch of my hair out from the root!! LOL. I prefer the micros method personally. My man usually sees me doing my extensions so he knows they are there and nobody else will be playing in my hair!!
