I recently got my hair done in Senegalese twists few weeks ago. My hair braider told me that it wouldnt be a good idea to wash them because that type of hair is prone to getting frizzy. The idea of me not washing them doesnt sit well with me. Does anyone have any methods for washing them without the twists unraveling or getting frizzy?

I love senegalese twist, its my fav braid method....but I don't wash them.  I may have gotten them wet a few times but i did have a problem with frizzing.  Depending on the method that is used to twist/roll the hair will determine how well it keeps.  What kind of hair did you use?

You can try the crown and glory method. http://www.growafrohairlong.com/shampooingnatural.html

My senegalese twists don't frizz.  However, my natural hair does. So I either don't wash them and scalp clean only or  I only wash them when I'm getting ready to put it into an updo style b/c that will hide/minimize the frizz.

I've tried washing them loose but it didn't work well for me.  So when I do wash them I do it like this:

In the shower.  I tried to do loose sectioned braids but it was too much weight on the base of the twists so I either flat twist or cornrow the top.

I also DC in the braids by taking down the cornrows/flat twists and applying the DC only to my hair length.  Then I put them into a low bun and cover with a plastic grocery bag (or two).  I then cover that with a headwrap so I can do stuff around the house or around town.

Here are my twists DCing under a headwrap:

My poo and DC I mix in separate color applicator bottles to an 80:20, water:product ratio.

HTH! :)

Also, ITA with following the Crown & Glory Method.

^^^ Thanks for your help Swift and Shrewd

So I washed them in four large braids. I use diluted shampoo in a spray bottle and rinsed in the shower.. Used the same method to dc. They came out fine but noticed that some of my real hair is sticking out in some of the twists:-/

Swift that is a great technique for washing while wearing twists...usually I just cleanse my scalp with witch hazel but I will try this method...I plan to get some twists done while I am in Jamaica in two weeksTongue

oops there was a typo in my original msg... the twist do not get frizzy after being wet.
You should try using Xpression braiding hair for your next install.  Very little frizzing and super light.
