Hello Everyone,

I have been struggling with maturity. I am currently 25 years old and had some history of work and some college. But due to my schizophrenia I have not been able to work and go to school and I get food stamps and social security. Anyway, I've recently came up with an idea of being a more serious and mature person dabbling in more serious and mature things. Like reading a book instead of watching television, exercise instead of lying on the couch, playing cards and board games instead of video games, watching the news and soap operas instead of cartoons and music videos. I want to become a vegan and exercise and get in shape, and eating healthier instead of fast food. I want to be in a relationship and get married and have children and pets, live in a two story house, and have a career.

But when I listen to some r n b (and hip hop) songs it takes me to a beautiful wonderland and takes me back as a child and all of the wonderful and fun things I've done as a child. The use of imagination, creativity, and wonder, parties and sleep overs and just being in an all around better place. It makes me want to continue being young and having fun.

But when I see the workers at my group in their formal clothes and applying themselves to their jobs, it makes me want to be much more mature. It makes me want to wear dress clothes and glasses, listen to new age music, soap operas, and some classical music.

I'm confused between the two. Should I continue to be a young or should I upgrade to a more mature me?

the two aren't mutually exclusive though

..you can be mature and still have that youthful spark

..it's better like that anyway

I don't think I'll ever be 100% 'grown' and that's okayLOL

watching soap operas vs music videos and cartoons doesnt make you 'mature'
all that stuff you do won't matter if you don't personally like it.

^^^^True.
Which do you prefer?
Reading books and not playing video games does not make one mature because there are people who are mature and enjoy their time off by playing video games or watching music videos.

If you are unsure which one your truly prefer, then answer this: what will you do with your life by "being young"? Are you going to use your creativity to create children' book, animation, or..?

Find a balance.   It's not either or. Mature people have fun also, just not the childhood type of fun, at least not on a daily basis.
You mentioned Schizophrenia, are you on the proper Meds dosage-wise?

Everyone should mature at a certain age . I respect that fact you would like to venture out . You can enjoy life at any age . Getting older can be a blessing if you live a full life . Continue to take you meds and do what makes you happy .

You can do both, you just need the willpower to put 'playtime' on the back burner and focus more on work.  You can still enjoy the music, just not get wrapped up in it. I know a  successful, black female engineer who is around 28, and she listens to nothing but hip hop and rnb. She is succesful because she knows how to balance working and being serious about her career, to having fun on the side.
