If you want kids, then 40 is too late to "start thinking about setting down"

only if you're a woman I guess

I know I'm already getting side eyes for saying "I'll think about kids after I turn 30" but then again I'm african and expectations are high sometimes

Only if shes oppose to adoption on invetro(sp?) As alternatives.

Even with medical advancements it is incredibly hard to get pregnant after 40. And, having kids that late in life is difficult on you and shortchanges the child. How many of you middleaged people have the energy to deal with an infant or toddler? Your kid will only have 30-40 years with you before he has to take care of you.

It doesn't make sense to wait to 40 before even "thinking" about settling down.

Have we become so use to teen moms and 20summin moms that a new mom in her late 30s and 40s seem like some she cant handle? If your reason for having kids is to have someone to take care of you. Dont have kids. I know a few 70 year olds doing fine without assistance.

Its easier physically, to take care of a child in your 20s than 40s. It just is.

That said, i still dont see anything wrong with having your first child in your mid to late 30s.

40s though.....why put yourself through the stress, if you can do it earlier?

pregnancy and caring for an infant is not a walk in the park (even in your 20s) . Whether you have strong support or not. You are the primary caregiver, and everything comes down to you where caring for that child is concerned. Everything in your life changes.
I think it makes more sense to do it earlier.

Why? Maybe you're more established and got more time to devote to the child. This is if u go through having ur own child or an infant. 40 isn't. That old at all...hell many were raised very well by grandparents but im not going that high. If a person is of that age and wants a child theyve had time to thonk of it and accept any added stress. If adopting u can get older children

40 is old to be having first child imo.
Not too old. But old. But that's just me.

If i had to choose between life not being perfect at 27 (perfect job, house, car, etc), and having a child, and life being perfect at 40 and having a child, I would go with 27. As long as Im healthy, mentally prepared, and in a good, stable job.
