expect for your mac to boot up in about 20 seconds, never freeze and always block ads. and i'm serious.
But expect to be a little bit frustrated the first few days if you've never used a MAC, get a manual book I have the Missing Manual: MACbook by david pogue. I keep it around in case there are things i need to reference to. Things are not where you are used to at all. No folders inside of folders anymore, and if you don't want something just toss it in the trash, simple as that.

Everything has been great so far but in terms of finding things and learning how to operate the menus it becomes annoying. I really like the simplicity of Windows but a MAC is a lot more efficient.

I am switching from a PC to a MAC too for school this semester. I am going to get a MacBook laptop. I went to the Apple store to play with one for a little bit. I was concerned that word files wouldn't transfer over or if I was working on a paper in my school's library in Word it wouldn't read on my MAC. But the specialists there told me all about something called iWork that is compatible. When I first looked at the MAC it was so different than a PC. I am used to all my icons right on the screen. I guess it's going to take a while to get used to. Thanks gabi03 for recommending that book. I am going to check it out.

I would avoid iwork for MAC, its terrible and has alot of problems. Things simply do not sync alot of the time and its just bad. Spend a little more money and get the microsoft works for MAC, it works just as well if not better and your things will transfer over. You also know you can run windows on your MAC too? Look into that option, its the best of both worlds. And one more thing, you can put any icons and programs on your MAC desktop page. Just drag it over :)

I've never had a problem with iWork. I just make sure i select save as a word document under save as for projects i may want to print at school.
I love my MacBook. I don't have to worry about it slowing down when it is updating something. I don't even know there is an update until it tells me to restart. It loads pretty fast.
Some tips:
print screen is command + shift+3 print screen by selecting an area is command+shift+4 refresh is command+R

I switched over to Macbook Pro last year after the monstrosity known as Vista came out and haven't looked back. I'm pretty computer proficient so it only took me a week to get acclimated to the OS and environment. I originally got Office for Mac, but recently upgraded to Iwork 09 and am ready to finishing detoxing off of my Windows/Office addiction The thing I love about Iwork is the ability to convert your files either to Office files or to PDF's, which run on any user environment.

I'm a recent convert! I love it. I really love how easily I can save things to a pdf file with the print menu. It's perfect so I don't have to worry about not having a printer at the time. I can save it as is and print it later. Which is perfect for things like my plane tickets that I don't want to print too early then lose.
I miss maximizing screens though. It would be nice to be able to fullscreen sometimes.
Oh but this touchpad on the macbook pro is sexy. I love scrolling with it, when I borrow windows laptops I always go insane now.
Anyways, I have the 13in MBP, You'll get used to it and you'll love it! The learning curve isn't THAT steep.

I just purchased a mac book pro today and I love it. I already have an iMac and was just being greedy. I will never buy a PC again and I despise them...especially Dell.
I love the ability to call them up and get actual people that speak English that can help you with your problems. You can get peace of mind with a mac...
