I see both big lips and big eyes and a small nose. She looks like so many African girls I know who are never celebrated en masse. Can we have just this one? I promise you--the typical representation of attractive black women being solely light skin with blonde weaves will reign as the standard forever. Can we all just be happy she at least broke the barrier?

i dont think there is anyone on here who doesnt wish her the best and want her to succeed…

no one is taking anything away from lupita or y'all by stating how they feel about all this hype.

is it wrong that people feel a way because people are acting like she's the first beautiful dark woman?
or think that all this theorizing about her and her success and popularity is a bit extra and odd..?

some of y'all can't stand to hear 1 comment thats not worshipping her. and like i said the comparisons to the kim k and rhi threads are pointless cus those are filled with negative comments.. this one isn't.

No one's saying she's the first beautiful dark skinned woman. She IS however, the first from my recollection to receive this kind of acclaim from all races. And all the theorizing, care, and admiration is primarily from black women who can now see someone they at least relate to. All the theorizing people did about Beyonce's relationships, Rihanna's relationships, Halle's troubled relationships, etc etc NEVER garnered claims of fetishism. But with Lupita it is???

Whether it be on a physical level or on a more intrinsic level people are relating to her. The woman is smart, talented, beautiful, and undeniably black. That is something to ogle in Hollywood.

nahh they're accused of being 'lumnati and fcvking for tracks and their beauty especially Beyonce's gets a high level of discussion--very very high.

I don't think it's anything BAD to wonder WHY Lupita is so popular...in a way it's probably rooted in a sense of like guarded skepticism in the system like she'll be taken away from "us."  It's mainly rooted in a distrust of white people IMO. I like Lupita.  I made my sisters watch the Oscars because she was nominated because I thought it was important.  I want to see her everywhere. My husband's niece had Lup as her #wcw and that was big to me because I remember her crying because she was teased about her skin tone.

Anyway my mom wants to watch 12YAS after she saw the commercial.

Two ladies on my facebook, who happen to be white, posted this on their timeline and all these Indian ladies are talking about how amazing she is.

There's just something about Lupita! Heart

@sexibeach, you're a model right? Have you ever traveled to Africa if so which country? Because for you to say Lupita has white features, and that is the reason why she is celebrated is unsettling. When I first seen Lupita, I thought in my head, okay she looks Kenyan. Maybe it is because I generally know how certain Africans look I picked up on it. But I notice a lot of people do this, when they see a pretty/attractive African they ask where are they from. When it is answered that they are from Africa, they seemed to be confused or can't believe it or feel that this "African" must be mixed some where down the line. People think all Africans look a like but we all don't, Lupita will stick out like a sore thumb in some West African ethnic groups. But she looks straight up Kenyan, with not an ounce of a Caucasian features.

That speech broke my heart and lifted it up.  I would be so proud of her if she was my daughter.

For me it is this exactly.  I'm sorry I do not trust them with something so beautiful.   I have developed a healthy fear of everything white ppl make a big deal about.
