It is but I'm in no place to judge

I don't know what it's like to be from an often invisible-to-the-world African country
Her image means more to some people than I can even fathom

star, what she means is that in Kenya (and Africa in general) since pretty much everybody is black, you are defined by other things such as your ethnic group, class or gender

like in Nigeria for example, I wouldn't have to state "yeah I'm black" cos it goes without saying..everybody and they granny blackLOL

you'd most likely identify with your particular ethnic group or tribe--I think we've had some kind of thread on BHM before

essentially, you don't "become black" till you reach the west..I think it was chimamanda adichie who spoke about something similar

exactly. Some people think it is an insult when an African doesn't come out right saying and proclaiming that they are black . When that couldn't be farthest from the truth.

Okay thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I think it is human nature for people to categorize themselves and each other and "clique up" in other words. We always have to find differences among ourselves. That's why I think even when the whole world has mixed to become the same color there will still be beef about something else we invent.

I'm actually getting Lupita fatigue, which I didn't expect to happen so soon. It's the fault of the Internet. I'm just gonna be on the lookout for her next role.
