Oh no Missvw .. this is the technique that I have been using for years now! It works.
For me I thin out and cut the hair around the edges (real baby hair). Then I move my fingers in a light CIRCULAR motion gently around the edges over that bit of glue. I also cut in short, thin sideburns too that I apply in this circular fashion as well.
My edges are not lacquered down though. It's in the APPLICATION and just use a little bit of glue.
I always wear my hair tucked BEHIND MY EARS so it really does look like my edges are very curly (like my hair) and that it is growing out of my head. Usually I have a light fringe on my forehead though. So I am distracting the eye.
I think if you pull all the hair severely off your face the edges might look funny .. but if your edges are partially obsured (not COMPLETELY obscured) by the hairstyle so that only the area an inch or so over your ears is exposed and the rest is partially exposed ... it will look real.
I try NOT to make my hair look 'perfect' though.
I am against The Basketball wives look.
You have to work with it and practice to get it right though - again use a light circular motion because there's a science to it. For me it's been 5 years of this technique.
