Come back OP and tell us how your hair turned out. This is a little late, but I would suggest. 1st option:  washing your hair with a sulfate free shampoo/conditioner, rinse out with cold water for at least 2 minutes. Apply a curling product like gel or activator. Do not comb, just rub entire head with the palms of your hands in a circle. You hair should coil/curl up. Afro hair is curly hair. The curls just need to be conditioned well. 2nd option: find a professional stylist who knows how to do good texturizers. With a texturizer it is a matter of proper timing to achieve the curl/coil pattern. If you choose to do it yourself (which I do not recommend) the S-curl texturizer is a good one to use. I used that on my boyfriends hair when I was a teenager, and it looked really good.

Give us an update.

If the length in the first pic is true to what yours is.... in comparison to the other pics, the only difference i see is really in length. those textures are almost identical. all you need is to get some shea butter or loc butter and twist a few around your fingers to coil them together. or twist them at night and release them in the morning. but you're going to have to gain some length.

but to keep your hair at its softest and most manageable... research apple cider vinegar rinses, coconut cream deep conditioning treatments, and the LOC method.

I am a weave loving womon foremost, however this comes up often. I have done a texlax on mine and it worked great. I useduction a large comb and followed the directions. It will make the curls more loose. I loved it. It has been some time since and my hair grew a lot since but it is possible. I did it because I wanted my curl without fighting a comb. There were less tanglea but the pattern was managable. I could pony my hair quickly, and it would lay down for the pony. My hair before sits at least a quarter inch whereas I have a large bump due to my natural fighting to not be restrained. Up to you but you can still rock a fro either way. I don't see it as changing my race   anymore than those who relax theirs. I kept my fro though. No judgement here.
